Both sets of players running through their warm-ups now. Salford City don't usually have squad numbers but tonight they have names on the back of their shirts.

Lewis Hardcastle (15) and James Poole (12) have chosen to break the 1-11 run in the starting line-up. Annoys me more than it should do. Nobody has picked the seven shirt in the whole squad...

We are potentially 90 minutes away from playing a Premier League club. It's frightening to think, but the reality is we could draw them if - and it's a big if - we beat Hartlepool. So we better start getting used to it. The best thing coming into tonight was that we got beaten last Saturday at Grantham. If we are not at it we know we could be taken to the cleaners.

There could be some decent action in the dugouts tonight. Viewers of the BBC documentary on Salford City recently will know that management duo Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley take no prisoners, and Hartlepool boss Ronnie Moore is no stranger to a dust-up either.

Salford City v Hartlepool (19:55 GMT)

Hartlepool will have no misty-eyed memories of playing in front of the BBC cameras - as last year they were dumped out by Salford's fellow minnows Blyth Spartans.

Jarrett Rivers - Remember the name! - scored a last-minute winner which shocked Pools, and the viewing public.

Rivers said afterwards: "I'm living off that goal for the rest of my life", while his manager Tom Wade told BBC Sport the victory was "written in the stars".

We'll have to wait and see if Gary Neville has indeed taken on the 1300-mile journey from Valencia to Salford tonight, but we know that at least 350 Hartlepool fans have made the 240-mile round trip.

Salford are having another fine season - third in the Northern Premier League Premier - but they have found life tough on home soil.

Perhaps the opposition are boosted by the chance to see Paul Scholes in the crowd, but Salford have only won two of nine home league games this season.

Ronnie Moore has had plenty of ups and downs during a lengthy managerial career, but last season's escape from the drop must be right up there.

When Moore took charge at Pools a year ago the club were six points adrift at the bottom of the Football League. They had 12 points from 20 games!

But Hartlepool picked up a further 33 points under Moore and stayed up comfortably in the end...

Every person in the country wants us to be beaten so we're fighting the nation - except everybody in Hartlepool. Around the country they all want the giant-killing act and that's basically what this cup is like, and if we go in with the same frame of mind as Notts County then there's only one outcome.

Will Hartlepool put a stop to this tonight?

Salford City provided one of the stories of the round last time out as they beat Notts County of League Two, and tonight they are hoping for a repeat trick to earn a place in round three.

In their way stand Hartlepool - 20th in League Two, scorers of 19 goals in 19 league games and losers of four of their last five league games.

Is the sequel to the shock on?
