It genuinely is a cold Tuesday night in Stoke...

Needing a result in the League Cup on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke is probably not something that was considered even a possibility for Jose Mourinho before this season started. That, though, is arguably the case.

With just one win in Chelsea's last six games, Mourinho - and the club's fans - could certainly do with a morale-boosting result tonight ahead of this weekend's crunch Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Some newspapers are suggesting, external Mourinho is on borrowed time. Losing tonight is unlikely to be the end of his tenure at Stamford Bridge, but losing to both Stoke and Liverpool could potentially cause damage beyond repair.

  8. After the love has gonepublished at 18:30

Back in March, television cameras captured former Big Breakfast presenter Johnny Vaughan squeezing through a delirious crowd to point at Jose Mourinho and enthusiastically declare his love for the Chelsea boss.

That was in the minutes after the Blues beat Tottenham 2-0 to win the 2015 League Cup - Mourinho's first bit of silverware in his second spell at the Blues.

For Chelsea fans, that must seem like a lifetime ago after what has been a disastrous start to the season.

Far from being loved, Mourinho is now a man under pressure and needing to turn things around sooner rather than later...
