  1. Carlisle's marathon journeypublished at 13:13

    Plymouth v Carlisle

If there was an away tie that Carlisle fans didn't want to draw in the Cup, it was probably Plymouth.

The 779-mile return journey is one of the longest in English football.

When the two teams met in League Two on a weeknight in August, 169 Carlisle fans made the marathon trip, only to see their side lose 4-1.

The Cumbrians will be hoping to better reward their loyal followers this afternoon.

Plymouth fans and players will probably just be hoping it isn't a draw...

    Salford City 2-0 Notts County

As we approach kick-off in today's games let's have a quick look back to yesterday's big story.

The FA Cup first round got off to a thrilling start last night as Salford City bridged a 59-place gap in the football pyramid to knock out League Two Notts County.

The seventh-tier part-timers, co-owned by five ex-Manchester United players, were making their first-round debut, but you would hardly have known it.

Danny Webber opened the scoring 18 seconds into the second half, before Richie Allen's sensational turn and strike sealed a memorable victory.

  7. Two hours to go...published at 13:00

    Business time is getting closer.

A few players are out on pitches across the country trying to prove to managers and physios that they've shaken off that midweek knock.

Fans are en route. For some it's a first experience of a big Cup tie while for others memories of great days long since passed are being evoked.

And somewhere, somewhere someone will have vastly underestimated how many pies they should have ordered in today.
