"The second half takes on a completely different look after that stunning Matt Ritchie strike. Poland had been in complete control with the home side creating very little. The question is, will the Scotland goal do to Poland what the visitors' goal did for Scotland? Gordon Strachan sticks plan B back in the drawer and now looks ahead to the second half."

James in Giffnock: "It's got to be all change at half time. No point in waiting until half way through the second half. Maloney and Griffiths on and all out attack required."

Colin in Sheffield: "Scott Brown again hopelessly out of his depth at international level."

Gary Wilson, Redmoss: "Too many English in the Scotland team! Strachan needs to get a grip and look to Scottish players at least! Half these players don't even get a start for their clubs yet because they are based in England they are automatically deemed better. I bet McInnes could pick an alternative team to beat these comedians! Good goal but still damage has been done."

Hugh in Perth: "As I said the other night, Brown has managed to be an invisible headless chicken. He is totally exposed at this level. Thank goodness for the one moment of inspiration."

It is hard to describe that equaliser as anything other than robbery, but very welcome for the Tartan Army. However, as it stands, Scotland are out.

Good heavens. From nowhere, Scotland are level! Matt Ritchie rattles in a peach of a strike with his left foot from 25 yards. Game on!

Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall punches the ball clear from Robert Lewandowski's head. They are hanging in there.

Scott Brown works hard to win the ball back but possession is quickly surrendered by Steven Naismith thanks to a poor touch.

James Forrest's shot is blocked in the sort of manner that raises home fans' hopes of a penalty. That is waved away, correctly, by the Hungarian referee and the ball eventually falls for Matt Ritchie whose snap shot is hurried and wayward. Scotland have yet to test the Polish goalie.

Ian Greig @TheGreig2307: "Scotland going backwards when picking D&S Fletcher and leave Griffiths & Maloney on bench. Staying home. Disappointed."

scott wilson ‏@swilson0082 "Until Steven Fletcher is no longer in the team I'm done with watching Scotland, we will never score the goals needed."

We have eight minutes until half-time...

This is better from Scotland as Matt Ritchie finds space to attack. His delivery in to the box, though, is a shot-come-cross and Swansea's Lukasz Fabianski gathers bravely.

Grant Hanley is fastest to get on to the ball when Matt Ritchie's free-kick clatters off the Poland wall and trundles into no-man's land in the visitors' box. However, he and a few team-mates were offside.

It's still 0-0 in Dublin between the Republic of Ireland and Germany. As things stand, Scotland are out.

  14. CLOSE!published at 20:17 British Summer Time 8 October 2015

Poland knock the ball about with ease as Arkidiusz Milik spanks a shot high over the bar. That, however, is followed by a fizzing shot from Jakub Blaszczykowsk that goes a whisker past David Marshall's far post. My oh my, that could have been a very damaging blow to Scotland.

BBC Scotland reporter Chris McLaughlin at Hampden

"Scotland push and probe, left and right but every attack simply crashes against the Polish defensive wall. Gordon Strachan's side need to find an extra gear because the visitors look very comfortable at the moment."

Now, something for the Scots to cheer as Russell Martin picks out James Forrest with a long crossfield pass and the Celtic winger stretches his legs down the left before passing to Steven Naismith. His shot, though, is blocked.

  17. Postpublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 8 October 2015

Matt Ritchie makes a spurt forward and passes to the over-lapping Alan Hutton, but his cross in to the box is cleared. Quickly, Poland make a break and Robert Lewandowski picks out Kamil Grosicki but he can't get the right angle to trouble Scotland goalie David Marshall.

  18. Postpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 8 October 2015

Scotland look hesitant and lacking in confidence. Matt Ritchie picks up the ball on the right wing, tees it up on to his left foot and curls a cross far too heavily into the box and the Poles have a goal-kick.

"I think we are playing slightly deep and it is killing us, giving them plenty of space."
