Alex Mosedale: City look very good tonight. As a Liverpool fan, this worries me ahead of Sunday.

Sunday, of course, see the teams meet in the League Cup final.

Dynamo started the first half reasonably well - now they need another lightning start. Andriy Yarmolenko, their danger man, tries to wriggle into space as he cuts in from the right. No dice. City's wall-like defence cannot be scaled.

Right, here come the two teams. Dynamo clamber up the steep steps first, bearing facial expressions like they've just had a rollicking.

Wonder what Sergei Rebrov said to his men? Well I do know that he told them that he was making another change. Speedy Brazilian striker Junior Moraes comes on for the lankier Lukasz Teodorczyk. That's what he deserves for wearing the number 91 shirt...

Moraes's first job is to restart the game...

A brilliant build up, a brilliant goal, as David Silva doubled City's advantage.

I tell you who will be feeling rather smug at full-time (if this stays the same, or gets better, for City)....Manuel Pellegrini. So far his decision to rest his stars at the weekend has been fully vindicated...

City, of course, lost 5-1 to Chelsea in the FA Cup on Sunday after fielding a very weakened team.

Jacob Butterfield's goal remains the difference between the two teams in tonight's one Championship fixture.

Butterfield struck from outside the box after eight minutes. The Rams will go up to fifth if they take all three points.

Over in tonight's other Champions League game, Atletico Madrid will be disappointed not to be leading. They have had one chance hacked off the line while Antoine Griezmann was brilliantly denied by Jeroen Zoet after springing the PSV offside trap. The hosts are finding it tough going in their first appearance in the knockout rounds for the first time since 2007.

The City players look pleased as punch with themselves, although not too smug, as they waltz off for a half-time orange. And it's not surprising. They have been quicker, sharper and, frankly, much better than the Ukrainian champions. Fully deserve their two-goal advantage.

Dynamo are like a WWE wrestler tapping on the canvas. They're desperate for the referee to call this off. City skipper Vincent Kompany pings a Hollywood ball towards Sergio Aguero, but overhits it slightly as the home side survive again.

And that's that for the first half. Fifteen minutes of respite for the home side...

The clock is ticking into stoppage time. Two minutes to go. But it could get even worse for Dynamo - City have a free-kick in a dangerous position. They're off the hook. Fernando heads over.

You can barely hear a noise inside the cavernous Olympic Stadium after that second away goal. The natives don't know what day it is.

And it should really be 3-0 - but Sergio Aguero drills the ball wide when he really should hit the target at the very least. That could've been tie over, it really could.

City are looking firmly in control here. The visitors enjoy another spell of possession, largely down the right flank, but without creating another opportunity.

Oh, hang on. Now they have. David Silva wriggles into space inside the penalty area, only to tamely shoot straight at Dynamo keeper Olexandr Shovkovskiy.

City fly out of the traps again. Sergio Aguero leads the charge, slipping the ball in to the supporting Yaya Toure. He may not have the legs he used to have over 90 minutes, but boy can he still gallop forward when he needs to. However, the Ivorian cannot beat Dynamo keeper Olexandr Shovkovskiy, who beats clear at his near post.
