  1. Resolute Romanianspublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    France v Romania (20:00 BST)

This won't be an easy task for France, they will have to work hard to breach a Romanian backline that conceded just two goals in 10 qualifying matches.

Goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu should be renamed Persil (other brands available) as he knows all about clean sheets. He kept 14 shut outs for Fiorentina, who finished fifth in Serie A last season.

The France players seem in good spirits in the warm-up as Dimitri Payet and Antonie Griezmann go through their hurdle jumps before bumping shoulders with each other. Striker Olivier Giroud smiles as he is made to stretch his quads, while Sevilla defender Adil Rami looks focussed.

French camaraderie? Can they get through the tournament without spectacularly falling out with each other?

  3. Big security presencepublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    Thierry Henry
Former France International on BBC Radio 5 live

"The security presence does make me feel safe. I've always been on the bus and never had to do that before but I arrived here about 5 o'clock and they checked us the right way. There is a lot of security staff but everyone has been good."

Meanwhile, in more Euro 2016 news not involving the actual football...

Spain goalkeeper David de Gea has denied as "lies" a claim he organised a sex party with prostitutes for team-mates in which a woman was forced to take part against her will.

"It's all false," de Gea told reporters.

The claims are contained in court papers in a trial against a pornography baron seen by a Spanish newspaper.

A witness said the pornographer forced her and another girl into sex with two Under-21 internationals in 2012.

  6. France feature some familiar faces - Romania less sopublished at 19:10 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    France v Romania (20:00 BST)

Six Premier League players in France's starting XI - and two former ones in the shape of Patrice Evra and Paul Pogba.

France XI: Lloris, Sagna, Koscielny, Rami, Evra, Kanté, Matuidi, Pogba, Griezmann, Payet, Giroud

Romania's line-up is a lot less familiar, even to West Ham and Tottenham fans, who saw little of Razvan Rat and Vlad Chiriches when they were at their clubs.

Romania XI: Tatarusanu, Sspunaru, Grigore, Chiriches, Rat, Hoban, Pintilii, Stanciu, Popa, Stancu, Andone

  7. What's French for 'park the bus'?published at 19:07 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    France v Romania (20:00 BST)

    Thierry Henry
Former France International on BBC Radio 5 live

"I think the French team will be too much for Romania to handle. Will Romania park the bus? They will. That is how they qualified. If you don't concede then you can always win the game."

  8. Home advantage?published at 19:05 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

Managed by Michel Hidalgo and led on the pitch by skipper Michel Platini - who scored nine goals in the tournament - France won all five matches on their way to lifting the trophy in 1984.

There are an awful lot of Tricolor flags in the France end of the stadium and, although it is still only two-thirds full, it is already an impressive sight - and sound - when they wave them while bellowing 'Allez Les Bleus'.

  12. Missing outpublished at 18:56 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    France v Romania (20:00 BST)

    France missing XI

Injury and suspension has meant French stars such as defender Raphael Varane and striker Kevin Benzema miss out on the tournament.

However, others can be classed as unlucky after stellar seasons with their clubs, but not good enough for selection, such is the strength in depth.

Among those on holiday are Jeremy Mathieu, who won the double with Barcelona, Hatem Ben Arfa, who produced Vine after Vine of sublime skills for Nice, while Kevin Gameiro smacked in 29 goals for Sevilla.

  13. It's getting noisy in herepublished at 18:53 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

The Romania fans are massed behind one goal and were being noisy enough anyway - but they have just ramped it up when their team came out to inspect the pitch.

To be fair the France fans responded straight away with a noisy rendition of "Allez Les Bleus" and we would have had a tasty atmosphere on our hands if not for a slice of electro Euro-pop that came blasting out of the speakers and drowned everyone out."

It can't be a major event without an extravagant opening ceremony to get the tournament going. Don't expect anything less from this one.

Music star David Guetta will take centre stage at Stade de France alongside Swedish singer-songwriter Zara Larsson to perform the official Euro 2016 song 'This One's For You'.

If Guetta's your kind of thing - Titanium/When Love Takes Over/Without You etc. - then you'll enjoy this.

The ceremony has been described as "a spectacular exhibition of French spirit and mass choreography". Of course.

  19. Lawro's predictionpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

    France v Romania (20:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

France are my pick to win Euro 2016. Home advantage will be massive for them and they are so strong in midfield and attack.

I would be even more confident if they were a little bit better defensively but if you look around the competition, there are not too many teams capable of winning it who are very good at the back.

There are some good defensive teams, including Romania, who conceded the fewest goals in qualifying - two goals in 10 games - but they are not going to win it.

    Prediction: France 2-0 Romania
