Daniel Sturridge is probably the most naturally gifted striker sat in the team. He was sat on the bench, Roy Hodgson put him on and he did the business.

    Robbie Savage
    Ex-Wales midfielder on BBC One

"I don't think Wales as a team today played that well. Wales were hanging on in the second half and you have to say, Roy's subs have won England the game. Fair play, but Wales will live to fight another day."

The Wales players wear faces of disbelief. You can't blame them. For all of England's pressure they didn't really look like scoring inside the last 10 minutes or so.

But Daniel Sturridge found a way through and both sides are now well placed to progress.

Ashley Williams summons his players into a huddle. Lots of positives for them to take on.

  6. What celebrations for Englandpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 16 June 2016

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Lens

As Daniel Sturridge poked home that goal for England, there were some astonishing scenes, Coach Gary Neville ran half the length of the pitch join in the celebrations and a very relieved Joe Hart the full length.

Roy Hodgson's gamble has paid off.

"Gary Neville has just done a Jose Mourinho and legged it all the way down the touchline. Joe Hart came from even further back. The bench erupted. Contrast that emotion to Wayne Hennessey to my left. He's just had a swig of his drink and beat the post with his fist."

    Daniel Sturridge

    Would you believe it!

England don't have Dimitri Payet but they have Daniel Sturridge and the Liverpool man has found what must be the winner!

It's the third scruffy finish of the game as he plays a one-two with Dele Alli and somehow stabs it past Wayne Hennessey at the near post. Extraordinary drama.
