I feel sorry for Benedikt Howedes, he's a central defender but he's playing right-back and he can't dribble around players like you would expect from a full-back.

I've just noticed that Poland coach Adam Nawalka shook hands with Joachim Low before kick off. Tremendously courageous move given the scenes from Germany's previous game.

Back to matters on the pitch and Bartosz Kapustka is on for Jakub Błaszczykowski for Poland.

Judging by chat on Twitter, Brian, no. No you are not.

My hands have been dancing around some unfamiliar places on this keyboard as I strive to make sure I spell the Poland players' names correctly. 

There's a new one added to the mix as Krzysztof Maczynski is replaced by Legia Warsaw defender Tomasz Jodlowiec for the closing stages.

Mario Gomez has been out for more than two years, he missed the World Cup not through injury but because he has not been picked. I'm not sure about putting Thomas Muller back on the right side, though, he looks more dangerous in the middle. 

Germany make their second change as Julian Draxler is replaced by Mario Gomez for the final 20 minutes.

A win for either side will see them into the last 16 with a game to spare. 

At the other end, Mesut Ozil warms up Lukasz Fabianski's hands with a rasping effort. 

After a lull, this game is threatening to liven up again.

Is Arkadisuz Milik still winded? It seems so as he fluffs his shot from a low cross. He swipes at thin air under no pressure.

That must feel like running into a rock.

Jerome Boateng is one of the best tacklers in the game but he gets this one wrong as he clatters into Arkadisuz Milik. Out comes the yellow card as Milik gets his breath back. Winded by that one.

Toni Kroos tries his luck from distance but the shot is always rising and no danger to Poland keeper Lukasz Fabianski's goal.

Germany then make their first chance as Martio Gotze who, despite managing a shot on target, was largely ineffectual, and on comes Andre Schurrle.

Everything is still going down that left side for Germany. Thomas Muller, on the other side of the pitch, watches on in frustration as another attack breaks down.

Andre Schurrle is about to come on.

Another chance for Poland as Robert Lewandowski races away but Jerome Boateng produces a peach of a tackle to snuff out the chance. 

Boateng really is a wonderful footballer.

Inventive stuff from Poland as they win a free-kick 30 yards from goal. Robert Lewandowski stands over it, shaping up to shoot but then backheels it for Arkadiusz Milik, who bends the ball round the side of the wall but into the sidenetting.

Even though it's still goalless, I don't think we are getting nervous. The only doubt I have some of the players cannot stay fresh for 90 minutes.

Kamil Grosicki is booked as he prevents Julian Draxler from launching a German counter attack.

Has there been a standout team so far in this tournament? If there has, it hasn't been Germany. Industrious rather than silky on the ball and they are again patiently trying to search for an opening.
