Everything Germany do attack-wise is down the left - through Julian Draxler and Jonas Hector. Poland have done a very good job of keeping the threat from the pair to a minimum.

You may have seen a tweet from Neal Collins earlier stating that using "Blaszczykowski" on a Scrabble board would land you 50 points. It's taken you all by storm and now the debate is bubbling...

George Kappus: It would be 50 pts, but you'd use all 7 tiles so that would be a 50 pt bonus & you'd probably hit a double/triple letter word.

    Arran Belden: 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 10 + 3 + 10 + 4 + 5 + 1 + 4 + 1 + 5 + 1 = 50. Can confirm that it would be worth that on scrabble.

Sample Ster: Re. Scrabble. False. Too many letters. Even if you started with "Ski" you couldn't add on to it with one move.

Good, patient football from Germany as they try to find a way through two banks of four sitting just inside the Poland box.

Eventually the ball is worked forward to Mario Gotze, who touches the ball to Thomas Muller and his shot strikes the post. Flag was up for offside, though, with Gotze stood behind the defence when he got the ball.

Another booking for a Germany player as Mesut Ozil is shown a yellow card for a foul on Gzegorz Krychowiak. A definite foul, but I'm not sure it was worthy of a booking.

That's the Arsenal man and Sami Khedira having to tread carefully now.

A colleague of mine, who quite clearly has spent one Christmas too many playing Scrabble with the family, confirms that Blaszczykowski would score you 50 points on Scrabble.

Decent bit of football from Germany as Jerome Boateng floats a ball into the box, it's a bit long but Julian Draxler manages to hook it back into the dangerzone before Poland clear.

Ben Rabinovich: Fact Attack: Blaszczykowski would score you 50 points on Scrabble.

Can anyone verify Ben's claim? We want to but don't have a Scrabble board to hand, surprisingly.

The Polish have become dangerous now. At the start of the game it was all our possession.

We need to do a little bit more now. We don't have any options on the flanks. Right now, nothing is really working out.

Lukasz Piszczek crosses into the box for Poland but can only find a white shirt and Germany clear. There's no-one to pick up the clearance, though, and Poland have the ball again.

"Come out," shouts Germany boss Joachim Low. He wants his players to get further up the pitch.

  11. Where is Gotze?published at 25 mins

    Germany 0-0 Poland

Mario Gotze is the most peripheral of Germany's attacking options so far, just nine touches.

The next is Julian Draxler, who has double that amount.

Scarves on the move and plenty of bounce in the Polish end but Joachim Low must surely be the happier of the two coaches.

The Germany boss has been adopting a shrewd safety first hands in pockets approach tonight, unless of course he is busy pointing here and there from the edge of his technical area.

Low walks back to his seat for a drink of water every now and again but soon returns pitchside, to be as close to the action as possible.

Theo Bowyer: Kroos is the best distributor of a football in the world... His weight of pass and accuracy is just perfection.

Kroos has completed 96% of his 27 passes so far.

No surprises as Germany dominant possession. No shots on target, yet though.

Important block by Benedikt Howedes as the ever dangerous Robert Lewandowski finds space to shoot from the edge of the area. Poland are just starting to venture a bit further forward now.

Shkodran Mustafi will probably feel hard done by for being dropped from the first XI, and with good reason as well given Mats Hummels showing so far. Definitely looking a bit off the pace.

You can see Muller's attitude. You don't see many players with that hunger. Players who want to chase, to assist, to run. He is so important for our team.

Thomas Muller then does to Lukasz Piszczek what Robert Lewandowski had just done to Mats Hummels as he steals the ball from his feet and breaks into the box. He fizzes in a low ball that Toni Kroos pokes just wide.

Germany defender Mats Hummels has just returned from a calf injury and he shows a bit of rustiness as he takes too long in possession and Robert Lewandowski nips in to pinch the ball. He races towards the box but his low cross is stabbed away.
