If you're wondering why several Germany substitutes are now warming up, it is because Joachim Low just walked over to them (some way from the edge of the technical area) and told them to.

Great recovery by Mats Hummels - who has grown into this game after a slightly shaky start - as he gets back to get a foot in on Arkadiusz Milik as he threatened to get away down the right.

Probably Arkadiusz Milik was a little irritated by Jerome Boateng, who got a touch before him but that is the best chance so far.  Most of the time missing a chance like that means that Germany will score!

Quiet, stunned silence in here. Disbelief almost. As though nobody can believe Poland did not take the lead.

  8. CLOSE!published at 48 mins

    Germany 0-0 Poland

Oh what a chance! Poland, straight off the bat, are on the attack as Kamil Grosicki turns his marker just outside the area and whips the ball across the face of goal and it whistles just past Arkadiusz Milik's head. Got to put those away.

Poland get the second half under way.

It's hardly been a goal-laden Euro 2016 so far. Nine of the 18 games at the tournament have been goalless at the break. None of the previous eight finished goalless. There's hope yet.

Poland are yet to face a shot on target at Euro 2016.

Can that mean streak take them all the way?

Toni Kroos with the most touches and passes of anyone on the pitch but there have not been too many alarms for Polish keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Not much for Manuel Neuer to worry about in the other goal either. Robert Lewandowski sprinted 40 yards shortly before the break to try to close down Neuer, chasing what was a largely hopeless cause.

The Polish striker has been feeding on scraps for most of this game.

It's tough, chances are hard to see. We have to give much more and be dangerous from the flanks.

Fun fact. This is the second game at Euro 2016 that has been without a shot on target after 45 minutes. The first was France versus Albania yesterday - a game that I also wrote the text commentary for.

I know how to pick them.

Still, so far so good for Poland. They'll take this.

If you've been with me from the very start of this live text commentary, then first of all thank you. Second of all, please try to forget that I billed this encounter as having the potential to be a classic. It's been very much the opposite.

Sami Khedira fancies 'doing a Modric' as he sizes up a volley from 35 yards. He goes for it...and doesn't do a Modric, sweeping it well, well wide.

A Jonas Hector cross is stabbed behind for a corner. Toni Kroos takes it but it is straight into a sea of red and cleared.

Too predictable our play. They don't even play to Hector now because they know he cannot beat any players so it's a waste of time. We need to find a different solution.

But a look at Hector's touch map shows he is still getting on the ball in the final third.
