Playing in your first tournament match, like Nathaniel Clyne and Ryan Bertrand are, is hugely nerve-wracking.

Walking out to play on the biggest stage, you want to impress and don't let yourself, your team-mates, the fans, your friends and family, down.

You can play all the friendlies but this is where it matters. This is what you are judged on.

  2. 'Release Vards!'published at 19:54 British Summer Time 20 June 2016

Adam Lallana focuses 100 yards down the tunnel as Joe Hart continues.

"The whole game, 95 minutes, give it all we've got. Move that ball, move as a team."

    A ball of energy.

"Release Vards. He'll go, he'll go!"

"Have it lads, keep scoring, keep scoring! The best players on this pitch."

I always enjoy listening to a bit of Joe Hart's pre-match patter. Inspirational.

The Slovakia team are in the tunnel, led by Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel. No sign of the England team yet. Ah, here they come, Joe Hart his usual vocal self.

  5. 'England can't sit back'published at 19:48 British Summer Time 20 June 2016

I think Eric Dier will be told 'whenever we lose the ball get around Marek Hamsik'. He is their danger man. Vladimir Weiss is not bad either. He was a young kid at Man City when I was there and he has a bit of pace, bags of confidence, he will look to run at people.

But ultimately player for player England have a better team. Now they have got to prove it.

They have got to start well, at a high tempo and on the front foot. If they sit back and allow Slovakia to grow and get foothold in the game then it is difficult to turn around.

The players of England and Slovakia have completed their warm-up and there is now quite a lot of poking and prodding at the surface going on while one half is getting a good soaking from the sprinklers.

Wayne Rooney is not starting but he looked fully fit and raring to go as he practiced his shooting in the warm-up. The England manager will hope he does not need to call on his captain in a crisis tonight.

A reminder that Slovakia will qualify with a win and will finish second with a draw if Russia beat Wales.

However, Slovakia would definitely be eliminated in fourth spot if they lose and Russia win.

Is it just me or does it look more appealing to come runner-up!? Think I'd rather play Hungary, Portugal, Iceland or Austria than Croatia, Turkey or Czech Republic! Maybe Roy thinks the same with this team selection.

We have reports that some England fans are struggling to get into the ground, and there are some empty seats dotted about. Those extra security measures do take some time. Stay safe everyone, don't panic. You'll get in.

The players are away back down the tunnel. How are your nerves Nathaniel Clyne? Ryan Bertrand? Jordan Henderson? Jack Wilshere?

We have 20 minutes to go...

This is the man who England need to keep tabs on tonight. And let's face it - with a haircut like that Marek Hamsik can't disappear out of sight easily.

The Napoli midfielder ran the show in Slovakia's 2-1 win against Russia. He had 66 touches and made 52 passes (both more than any of his team-mates). More importantly he scored one goal and teed up another.

Don't be surprised to see Eric Dier give him an early reducer...

Where's the leader on the pitch? That's my concern. We've played two teams so far who aren't very good.

Steven F. Galloway: "If we do progress a lot of players will have tasted football at the tournament." ROY, THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!

Paul McDevitt: Most concerned Walker and Rose not playing. The added width and attacking potential will help Wilshere/Henderson into game.

Charlie Meach: Looking forward to Kane making an impact off the bench. He's been written off too quickly - so important for England.

"I wanna stay here, drink all your beer, please don't, please don't take me home!"

It's the new terrace classic which, along with the Will Grigg on fire song, is impossible to avoid anywhere in France at the moment. The Stade Geoffrey Guichard is reverberating to the strains of it right now as England's players go through their warm-up.

Jordan Henderson - Liverpool captain of course - is very vocal. Big game for him.

Interesting, maverick use of a capital letter there Greg but I take your point. Joe Hart should have done better with Gareth Bale's free-kick but he's about as secure as he could possibly be in that England team. I wouldn't expect to see Tom Heaton any time soon.

Roy's rolling the dice a little that's for sure. Not necessarily a problem but would of been much better exercise to get Barkley and Stones involved. Both could make a difference.

    Stoke City Fan.

Making changes to more than half a winning team is quite ludicrous. If it was a few it'd be understandable. We'll just have to wait and see. Win and he'll be known as a genuis. Lose, and, well you know the rest...

Not one of you mentioned Goalkeeping Calamities The only player apart from Raheem Sterling (Confidence Gone stood still no movement) that deserves to be dropped is Joe Hart his weak wrists (Gareth Bale Goal) and Bad Placement in his work area (Russia Goal he watched it sail over his head)

    Slovakia v England (20:00 BST)

England manager Roy Hodgson speaking to ITV Sport: "No I don't think [it is a gamble]. We have a strong squad of players. We believe in these players and they are more than capable of doing a job. It is the right time to do it.

"Jordan Henderson is experienced and Jack Wilshere,  despite his age, is also experienced.

"I don't make decisions with hindsight, I make them based on what is good for the squad. Tonight will be a chance for those players to show that they can do that job and I fully believe they can.

"It keeps competition for places high. if we do progress a lot of players will have tasted football at the tournament."

  19. Calculators at the ready...published at 19:25 British Summer Time 20 June 2016

    Right, here's the maths.

England win, they are group winners. A draw and they are through, but where they finish depends what happens in the Russia v Wales game.

Interestingly, should Russia beat Wales 1-0 and England lose by the same score (with both England and Russia collecting the same amount of bookings), then The Three Lions would come second not based on head-to-head record, goal difference, goal scored or disciplinary record (the order in which position in a group is decided), but on Uefa co-efficient ranking.

Yes Roy, it's a real beard stroker. You can read how it works here...
