    The lynchpin.

Jakub Blaszczykowski has been involved in four of Poland's five European Championship goals, scoring two and assisting two.

It's Ukraine who are seeing more of the ball now though, as they look to get back into the game and restore some national pride.

    Bastian Schweinsteiger for Sami Khedira.

  4. Postpublished at 67 mins

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Germany

This has been a much-improved second half showing by Northern Ireland. A lot more dogged and determined.

Germany are getting ready to send on Bastian Schweinsteiger.

    Ukraine 0-1 Poland

I have no affiliation to Ukraine or Poland, but I do have a neighbour who is Polish.

I remember his antics during the qualifiers, cheering wildly each time his country bagged against either minnows Gibraltar or Scotland.

He'll be bouncing at home right now. The Polish supporters inside Stade Velodrome are doing exactly the same.

Are Northern Ireland going to nick one?

A rare chance as Jonny Evans heads over from a corner.

    Encouraging signs.

    Ukraine 0-1 Poland

    A good response from Ukraine.

Yevhen Konoplyanka curls an effort just over the crossbar from the edge of the area following neat build-up work.

Vincent Crans: Is this Germany v Northern Ireland or Germany v McGovern? He's keeping them in the game and is putting in a MOTM performance.

Kieran Maj: McGovern is the Ochoa (Mexico Goalkeeper) of the Euros. Outstanding performances from him. Keeping #NIR, external in this game.

Stephen Shaw: Ominously Germany are starting to play like they did against Brazil.

    Ukraine 0-1 Poland

Olexandr Zincheko, the 19-year-old Ukrainian, full of confidence, sees the space open up in front of him, but his left-footed strike lacks direction and drifts wide of goal.

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Germany

    Gerry Armstrong
Former Northern Ireland International on BBC One

I think Mario Gomez should have scored again, another wonderful save from Michael McGovern. Khedira was allowed to run far too far for me, he ran at least 30 yards with the ball.

  12. CLOSE!published at 60 mins

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Germany

I've lost count of how many saves Michael McGovern has made.

This time he frustrates Sami Khedira but the ball rebounds to Mario Gomez who spurns another chance by heading wide.

  13. YELLOW CARDpublished at 60 mins

    Ukraine 0-1 Poland

Poland's Bartosz Kapustka receives a yellow for an unnecessary foul on a Ukraine man deep in the opposition half.

"Idiot," says BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson on commentary.

Kapustka will now miss the last-16 match.

One or two encouraging attacking signs for Northern Ireland as Stuart Dallas finds Conor Washington inside the German area but he can't get a shot away.

It's Washington's last action as a huge roar goes up to welcome Kyle Lafferty.

    His country needs him.

    Ukraine 0-1 Poland

If Poland get a few here, they may well top the group.

Germany lead Northern Ireland 1-0, so a healthier goal difference will take the Polish top of Group C.

Bit of polish needed on the finishing though.

  16. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Ukraine 0-1 Poland

Poland almost double their lead within a couple of minutes.

Bartosz Kapustka goes through unchallenged, but his shot hits the side netting.

    Ukraine on the ropes.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 55 mins

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Germany

Good news for Northern Ireland. Mario Gotze is going off. The bad news? Andre Schurrle once of Chelsea is on.

  18. 'Don't rely on 1-0 loss'published at 18:11 British Summer Time 21 June 2016

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Germany

    Gerry Taggart
Former Northern Ireland captain on BBC Radio 5 live

You don't want to rely on 1-0 being enough to go through if you can help it.

I was praying for an England win last night and it heaped a little bit of added pressure on Northern Ireland today.

  19. goal

GOAL - Ukraine 0-1 Polandpublished at 54 mins

    Jakub Blazszczykowski

    Beautiful finish.

The sub has made the impact.

Poland earn a corner which is fed to Ajax man Arkadiusz Milik on the edge of the area, whose brilliant reverse ball into the area finds Jakub Blaszczykowski.

'Kuba' has work to do, but a magnificent drag sees him put the Ukraine defender on the deck, before curling a left-footed finish into the top corner.

    Top goal.

    McGovern saves from Gotze

Jonas Hector embarks on another lung-busting run and shrugs off a green shirt as though it is not there.

Germany can smell another goal and Mario Gotze is presented with not one but two chances to double the lead.

He's left frustrated by another outstanding save by Michael McGovern, already man of the match.
