    Aston Villa

Looks like there's more disappointment for Aston Villa in the transfer market. Remi Garde's side have already missed out on deals for Seydou Doumbia and Lovre Kalnic, and the Premier League's bottom club had also been linked, external with Bordeaux's 28-year-old defender Lamine Sane.

But Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud says he will not be sold before today's deadline...

"Norwich fans should be pretty happy with our January transfers thus far. We’ve strengthened at the back with Ivo Pinto and Timm Klose coming in.

"In attack, Matt Jarvis signed on permanently and Steven Naismith impressed on his debut. We’ve also added Patrick Bamford on loan from Chelsea.

"I’d be surprised if any more came in between now and the deadline, but who knows. One name rumoured is Stoke’s Mame Biram Diouf but I’m still worried about our vulnerability at the back, if we can sort that out I think we’ll stay in the division."

With most footballers across the country finished training for the day, we might start to hear a few stories filtering through about players being hauled out of today's session to be whisked off for negotiations with another club.

    But team-mates be warned...

“The only player I remember this happening to – and I don’t think it was ahead of a transfer deadline – was Steve Claridge," former Leicester skipper Matt Elliott tells BBC Sport.

“We were training, Claridge got pulled over by one of the backroom staff and 20 minutes later we saw him walking out of the car park with a bin bag of boots slung over his shoulder.

“But he used to wear two single boots – so when we got back in we realised we only had one boot each. He had nicked one boot off about 10 different players. The kit man was fuming!”

Maybe Jurgen's just teasing and he's got Joao Teixeira making the brews while he chats to the press? Double bluff and all that.

"Watford will have to offload one or two of their overseas players if they want to sign any more today. Only 17 foreign players are allowed in Premier League squads and Watford already have their quota.

"The club are again being linked to Rennes midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, but if they sign him then one of their overseas players will need to be removed from their squad. The Hornets may also be after a striker as cover for Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney.

"If they were to sign a 'home-grown' player they wouldn't have to omit anyone from their squad as there is currently room for one more. However, with the club very close to securing their Premier League status they may wait until the summer to do this business."
