Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is out speaking to the media this morning - previewing Tuesday's home match with Southampton.

But today is transfer deadline day. What everyone wants to know is: Can you be sure Arsenal won't be signing anyone today?

Wenger: "Well, 100% is difficult to say, 99% yes. But you know always anything can happen. Somebody can knock at your door. If Lionel Messi knocks at my door at ten to six tonight I will not say please go back to Barcelona..."

    Leicester

    Matt Elliott
Former Leicester City captain on BBC Radio 5 live

"Leicester are short in numbers in forward areas. I think they need to add at least one, possibly two; perhaps a number 10 and an out and out striker. There's a barrel load of names. Loic Remy - I'm hearing rumours there's been a deal agreed. Berahino - I mean I wouldn't put it past Leicester to try and jump in on that. I know it's a lot of money. Money's not a major issue. The owners are quite affluent people.”

Boo Pat, don't spoil the fun. Saido Berahino's potential move is, at the moment, the big talking point of an otherwise quiet deadline day.

Still, plenty of time yet for things to change...

  6. Berahino 'not for sale'published at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

    West Brom

    Pat Murphy
    BBC Radio 5 live

"Still no movement on the Saido Berahino story, with West Brom continuing to insist he's not for sale this transfer window.

"Newcastle have registered an interest and I understand they would bid more than £20m for Berahino, but a deal today would leave Tony Pulis little room for bringing in any late replacements.

"But the key point is that West Brom's owner Jeremy Peace doesn't want to do a deal today. It would take a major bid to get him to the negotiating table."

"Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle could leave the club before the transfer window closes. Swansea and Leicester City are reportedly keen to sign the 26-year-old, who has dropped down the pecking order at Selhurst Park since the arrival of Emmanuel Adebayor. It is understood that at this late stage, there is only a small chance a deal will be struck - but it is a deal that could happen.

"Meanwhile, contrary to some reports Palace are not planning a move for Hull City midfielder Mo Diame, but the Eagles are considering a last-minute move for an unnamed player."

    Stoke City

Jason Martin, writer at FourTwoThreeOne Stoke blog:

What we need above all is a third winger. Shaqiri and Arnautovic are fantastic options but both are susceptible to injury or dips in form. Beyond them we lack depth and resort to square pegs in round holes, particularly on the left wing.

Other options include a centre midfield player of the N’Zonzi ilk, which Imbula would likely fit if a move from Porto materialises, and a centre back if Shawcross’ injuries persist.

Hughes sees it differently, and has seemingly made the centre forward role his priority this window. Berahino and Remy have been linked, whilst a late bid attempt for Adebayor was also rumoured. We’ll have to see what happens come the deadline!

Coates does, however, confirm Stoke are trying to get a deal done for an unnamed player, but that "it is not easy".

One to keep an eye on.

Cardiff could move for striker Kenneth Zahore, but only if he joins Belgian side Kortrijk first

"Having signed Italian forward Alberto Paloschi from Chievo, Swansea's priority today will be to sign a midfielder.

"There is a void to fill following Jonjo Shelvey’s move to Newcastle, but the Swans are understood to be unwilling to let striker Bafetimbi Gomis follow him to St James’ Park.

"The Welsh side could, however, be open to offers from foreign clubs for the French international, who has fallen out of favour at the Liberty Stadium.

"One of the most peculiar moves of the transfer window could come at Swansea’s arch rivals Cardiff.

"The Bluebirds are set to sign Danish striker Kenneth Zohore on loan – but only once he has completed a permanent move to Belgian club Kortrijk, who are also owned by Vincent Tan.

"Cardiff have the Football League’s blessing for that move, and they are also hopeful of signing Wales forward Tom Lawrence on loan from Leicester until the end of the season."
