So what are the chances for Wycombe in the Martin O'Neill derby?

The League Two side have only beaten a higher-ranked side in the third round of the FA Cup once, defeating Grimsby in a replay in 2001.

That was the season of course they made the semi-final, defeating Leicester City along the way.

The current Wanderers side have won three of their last four and are up in sixth in the League Two table.

"It was a great pleasure to play in two FA Cup finals and my father won the cup, it is magical. The hairs on the back of my neck are standing up. We have all the ingredients for a potential cup upset.

"This is a must win for Remi Garde and Aston Villa but it is a tricky tie for them."

After a couple of months out, those gnarled old pros in the punditry box tell us it can take a few games to get "match fit".

What about after more than a decade out?

On the Wycombe bench today is 46-year-old goalkeeping coach Barry Richardson, whose last serious game was for Doncaster in 2005.

He is covering for stopper Alex Lynch after Matt Ingram's red card against Morecambe on Saturday.

"We've got no one else we can put in there," said boss Gareth Ainsworth. "That's Wycombe, you get your chances."

Let's hope he's had his cod liver oil for breakfast. About a pint should do it.

Usually going out of the Cup is a chance to concentrate on the league.

Aston Villa this season have gone for the reverse tactic - getting out of the league so they can focus on the cup.

Now under the guidance of Remi Garde, Villa have been cut adrift at the bottom of the top-flight with only a revolver and solitary bullet for company.

Nothing to lose - apart from further humiliation in a car-crash of a season.

In the words of our own chief writer Phil McNulty, Tim Sherwood's Aston Villa "produced a performance of style, composure and grit" to beat Liverpool at Wembley.

Christian Benteke had scored six goals in four games.

Villa were one game from an eighth FA Cup and sitting a comfy six points above the Premier League relegation zone.

All this was less than nine months ago.
