  8. goal

    Ross Barkley

Now that is just taking the mick.

Outrageous from Ross Barkley. The England man strolls up to the ball on the penalty spot and dinks it into the net, with goalkeeper Rob Elliot looking very, very foolish.

    Brilliant.

    Steve McClaren reactsImage source, Reuters

A lot of criticism for McClaren and Newcastle coming in now...

Dan Bell: Taxi for McClaren, out of his depth.

Craig Spittle: Why is McClaren so bombproof? Such a parlous, perilous position for Newcastle yet he's apparently secure in his role. Strange

Superbayrton: Does make you wonder who Newcastle need to sign to stay up... Millions spent and no real improvement.

  15. PENALTY EVERTONpublished at 87 mins

    Everton 1-0 Newcastle

    What a daft challenge.

Aaron Lennon cuts inside from the right and, inside the penalty area, Rolando Aarons clumsily trips him. Clear penalty.

    Everton 1-0 Newcastle

It may not have been a classic but the one standout of the evening so far is the performance of Ross Barkley.

The Everton man has been head and shoulders better than any other attacker out there.

    Are you watching Mr Hodgson?

At the other end Aleksandar Mitrovic tries to get on the end of a long ball but doesn't.

    Everton 1-0 Nwcastle

Everton fans will be hoping striker Romelu Lukaku isn't badly injured.

He was struggling with a dodgy back in the first half and was replaced by Arouna Kone at the break.

Without him, they look pretty toothless in attack.
