There looked to be a big story brewing at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, with rumours circulating that the absence of Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs was because he was set for the top job at Celtic.

It turned out to be nonsense but that got us thinking about some of the great - or not so great - football rumours.

A long way south, is the latest chapter in the John Terry circus.

The Chelsea skipper should be leading his side out at Watford, just days after announcing he would be leaving the Premier League champions at the end of the season.

    Everton v Newcastle (19:45 GMT)

Hello and welcome to an intriguing night of Premier League football.

Out-of-form Everton entertain relegation-threatened Newcastle with both clubs very much needing the points.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is not Mr Popular among the blue half of Merseyside at the moment, while Newcastle know a win will lift them out of the drop zone.

    This is BIG for both.

Yep, no Newcastle United fan can complain about their owner Mike Ashley not investing in their squad.

£29m spent in January - plus a £21m bid for Saido Berahino being rejected - making it £83m splashed since the end of last season.

And that Toon Army is 'just the start' according to their manager.

Better stay up first though Steve...

If you have got it, flaunt it.

And Newcastle United and Watford have clearly got it.... money that is.

The Magpies and the Hornets spent more than any other club in the Premier League in the January transfer window.

    How can they fail?
