Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam on BBC Radio 5 live: "It was important that Newcastle brought in some British players. Shelvey knows the league and can stamp his authority on games. Hopefully Townsend can grab them a few goals."

If you had been asked to guess who the top four Premier League goal scorers would be at this stage of the season, surely you would never have got all four?

Leciester's Jamie Vardy has stunned everyone, leading the way with 18 goals, while in fourth place and just four behind is Watford's Odion Ighalo.

The Nigerian has scored seven in seven at Vicarage Road.

A slight word of caution for the Hornets though - of the 27 top-flight goals Watford have scored this season, 20 have been scored by Ighalo or Troy Deeney.

One set of fans who can sit back and relax today is Leicester City supporters.

They watched their Foxes side stay three points clear at the top of the Premier League thanks to Jamie Vardy's brilliant double in Tuesday's 2-0 win over Liverpool.

Why should they win the league? For one, it would give everyone else hope...

    Jose who?

What a difference a month and a half makes.

Since sacking Jose Mourinho in December, Chelsea are unbeaten in nine matches in all competitions and the likes of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas are crowd favourites again.

This was a Chelsea side who had previously lost nine Premier League matches.

Will we ever know what was happening at Stamford Bridge?

  10. Sticky time for Toffeespublished at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2016

    Everton v Newcastle (19:45 GMT)

He may be one of football's nice guys but it has been a pretty miserable couple of months for Everton boss Roberto Martinez.

The Toffees have taken nine points from their last 10 games and only Aston Villa, with eight points, have a worse Premier League record.

Martinez's men have won just three of their last 14 top-flight home games and have only kept one top-flight clean sheet on home turf this season - fewer than any other side.

Sorry Everton fans, maybe the above stat will give you hope?

    Everton v Newcastle (19:45 GMT)

Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles makes his first Premier League start since February last year, but there is no place in the squad for keeper Tim Howard and defender John Stones.

Winger Andros Townsend makes his Newcastle debut while Ayoze Perez and Paul Dummett also come into the side as boss Steve McClaren makes three changes.

Deadline day signing Seydou Doumbia is on the bench after the striker was granted a work permit earlier on Wednesday.
