Ryan Lloyd: The CB pairing of Lucas and Toure had actually done pretty well...so Mignolet of course had to take the wind out of our sails.

Kartik Venkat: You wonder now what will it take for Klopp to jettison Mignolet and look for a new keeper.

EPM: Can we borrow Joe hart as you don't need him?

I'm not so sure that Fernandino was even shooting there, he was wide on the right of the penalty area and just hammered it across goal and Simon Mignolet let the ball go between his body and his arms.

It's a wretched error and Liverpool now have 40 minutes or so to respond.

A class 'A' howler from Simon Mignolet. He got Liverpool out of jail in the first half with a terrific save but now he lets a regulation cross/shot from a tight angle from Fernandinho go straight through his grasp and into the net. Dreadful goalkeeping but it kicks this final into life!

How many of this City team will still be in place once Pep Guardiola has his suede loafers under the desk? We shall see. It could be a very interesting summer coming up. This XI have not offered much today but still had the best chance.

Can't watch the final due to girlfriend birthday duties, but the live text feed reads much better than that game sounds!

    Will - London

I'm not sure it is Will. How's the big birthday going? What duties have you had to fulfill

Actually, you'd better not answer that.

Christian Benteke? Adam Lallana? Divock Origi? Wilfried Bony? Jesus Navas? Kelechi Iheanacho?

Does either side have a matchwinner on the bench?

"I thought it was not a bad first half. There was one outstanding moment with Aguero, who should have scored but Mignolet pulled off a superb save. He gets criticism but that was outstanding."

Stickgangsta: No matter the #LeagueCupFinal, external result, one family (#Toure, external) will definitely celebrate. Wonder who they're rooting for though!

Adam Reid: That had to be the worst half of a football game I've seen this season. Cup final? I'd rather watch water boiling in the pot.

A watched pot never boils Adam, we all know that...

Whether it is the midweek European exertions or not, that was a poor first half.

Manchester City will feel they should be doing a lot better against a Liverpool central defence that now comprises Lucas and Kolo Toure.

Nice play from Daniel Sturridge to gather the ball in, beat two men and link up nicely with Philippe Coutinho. But it peters out.

Lucas is the latest offender to avoid a booking for a lunge on Sergio Aguero. If Robbie Savage had his way that would be the fourth booking of the game. As it is there have been none.

Liverpool controlling possession for large parts of this final so far but both sides are struggling to find a killer pass when it matters. Will we get a chance before half-time?
