Chance! Liverpool win a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty area, close to the deadball line too. Think penalty corner in hockey. They roll it to Philippe Coutinho, he smashes in a shot across goal and Kolo Toure is so close to heading it in! Inches over his head.

Seconds later Alberto Moreno has a penalty appeal waved away. All Liverpool now...

Mamadou Sakho is very emotional after being taken off. He flung his drinks bottle away and is still being consoled by a member of Liverpool's medical team.

It was, however, a sensible decision. He was still clearly struggling after a heavy clash of heads with Emre Can and Jurgen Klopp, with the advice of his medics, was correct to take no risks with the French defender.

Can you win a trophy with Kolo and Lucas at centre-half? That is now the question for Liverpool. It has to be the right decision to bring Mamadou Sakho off, surely? Even though the player wanted to stay on. 

Mamadou Sakho has not looked right since that head injury and he is now brought off by Jurgen Klopp. Sakho is fuming with the decision and throws a water bottle into the dugout and then covers his face with his coat. Come on now...

On comes Kolo Toure.

What a save! Out of nothing Manchester City spring Sergio Aguero in behind the defence, Mamadou Sakho slips and it all opens up for Aguero. Aguero shoots from 15 yards and Simon Mignolet tips it onto the post!

Robbie Savage thinks we should have had two bookings in the last minute as Jordan Henderson and then Fernandinho bring their men down. Nether are given.

Liverpool continue to press on and James Milner is played in - but he's offside.

Liverpool caused carnage when they went 3-0 up inside 32 minutes when they won 4-1 at Manchester City in November - fair to say this is a lot more subdued.

Not too much quality out there either in the early exchanges. Quiet stuff.

Daniel Sturridge gets on the ball for the first time but after gliding away from a challenge he can't complete a 10-yard pass to James Milner. Bitty, scrappy, sloppy stuff so far.

Sergio Aguero has been a virtual spectator so far and indeed he is stopped by Lucas as he tries to turn just inside the Liverpool half. Both sides really struggling to make the ball stick up front.
