Chance for Arsenal and a long ball finds Alexis Sanchez bearing down on goal but his touch lets him down at the vital moment. Hugo Lloris was out to him in a flash, too. The Gunners on top now and their fans know it.

Spurs on the advance and Kyle Walker tries his luck from distance, it's swerving but David Opsina saves well. The Colombian has performed admirably today.

Arsenal, seemingly confident from the lead, are knocking the ball about with some elan but then Aaron Ramsey trips Dele Alli to gift Spurs the ball. Shortly afterwards, Christian Eriksen adds to his frustrating afternoon by firing well, well over.

Our friends at Opta tell us there were 41 tackles in the first half, the most in the first half of a Premier League game since Wigan v Liverpool in March 2010 (46).

    Have some of that!

12:56 Andrew Hook: "Just do your job Ramsey. Cut out the flicks and defend. 2 on 1 every time down or right on Bellerin"

Joe Evans: Bet you feel silly now that Ramsey's scored with a flick!

Phil Ramsey: cut out the flicks and defend! Funny old game.

Steve P: Wise words from Andrew Hook 12.56. Stop attacking and cut those flicks out Ramsey! Doh!

    Hindsight, eh!

You can see from the average positions below where Spurs are getting space to attack - down Arsenal's right. Aaron Ramsey (16) has been coming inside a lot, leaving Danny Rose a free run down the Spurs left. But then the Welshman did score, so maybe he knows what he's doing! Speaking of which....

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at White Hart Lane

Hard to see that one coming in the first 25 minutes but Arsenal grew into the game and ended that first half with a real surge of momentum, not to mention the lead.

Spurs looked shell-shocked by Aaron Ramsey's goal and Arsenal had a visible injection of confidence.

Mauricio Pochettino almost sprinted down the tunnel at half-time to wait for his players to deliver the words he hopes will get them back on track for the second half.

    Danny Murphy
Ex-Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

"Danny Welbeck is a super player. He's been criticised for a lack of goals in the past but he's been brilliant today.

"He looks fit, strong and he's led the line well for Arsenal.

"England manager Roy Hodgson will be the happiest man in this stadium, though. We all know how much he likes Welbeck."

Well that was a very intriguing half of football. Spurs had the lion's share of the first period, but Aaron Ramsey's backheel flick was superbly taken and Danny Welbeck has shown his worth with some strong running in behind the Tottenham defence.

The goal came from Arsenal's only shot on target, which is a positive thing, I would say. Why waste them?

"Spurs should not be too despondent. They have played okay and have been on the front foot for a lot of this half.

"They just need to show the same calm in the final-third that Danny Welbeck showed to make that goal."

Arsenal took the lead in last season's north London derby but went on to lose that game. After Wednesday's shock defeat at home to Swansea, it's safe to say the result is not in the bag just yet.

Andy: Might as well give the 3 points to Tottenham now that Arsenal have scored.

Ajay the Gooner: In typical Arsenal fashion, I would like to congratulate Spurs winning this game 2-1!

One minute of added time. I would expect the team-talks may have just altered in focus after the past five minutes. And that's it for the half.

Liam Lennon: Alright, NOW we can say it... Same old Spurs!

Joseph Reade: Aaron Ramsey that is honestly filthy. 100% pure filth

Ex-Tottenham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

"Arsenal have certainly looked a threat on the break. They got a lucky deflection but Danny Welbeck was really calm to square that ball to hector Bellerin; then a very clever flick from Aaron Ramsey to take the lead. Brilliant finish!”

Spurs are on the rocks a bit here, as Mesut Ozil feeds Alexis Sanchez, but his low cross is just behind Danny Welbeck. Moments later, Sanchez then crosses from the left and Welbeck's header is saved by Hugo Lloris. What a turnaround.

Another chance for the Gunners, who are boosted to the nth degree by that goal, but Danny Welbeck is caught by Kyle Walker on the left edge of the area. Some race, that.

Where did this come from? Arsenal take a throw-in, a tackle bounces towards Danny Welbeck, he makes ground and crosses from the left where Hector Bellerin touches it onto the waiting Aaron Ramsey who flicks in. Nice finish. Here we go!
