Kenny Kim: Liverpool to focus on this Sunday. Trophies are like London buses. Next one could be the Premier League next season.

Ryan Elvin: As a Man Utd fan winning the FA cup to secure a Europa league spot because I don't belive were close to deserving top four spot.

Michael Griffin: Would love #LFC to win the Europa League! Been far too long since we had some big European nights in front of a roaring KOP.

  2. 'Sturridge needs to play football'published at 17:52

    Liverpool v Augsburg (18:00 GMT)

Manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken of his frustrations over Daniel Sturridge's fitness and several former Anfield stars have said it is time for the club to sign a replacement.

"That is what we needed: to hear from him not second-hand," said Reds manager Klopp.

"He has to start games to get in the best shape. He needs to play football and do the things on the pitch and we will be happy."

Tonight Sturridge is on the pitch - can he do the things on the pitch? We're less than 10 minutes from finding out...

  3. Don't disrespect me - Sturridgepublished at 17:50

    Liverpool v Augsburg (18:00 GMT)

Daniel Sturridge says his future is at Liverpool after accusing his critics of "disrespect".

It has been reported, external the England striker, who has played nine games this season due to injury, wants to leave Anfield over criticism of his fitness record.

"I think it is astonishing, disappointing - whoever is saying it - but that's football," said 26-year-old Sturridge.

"I am very ambitious, very determined to help Liverpool have success.

"To say a player doesn't want to play is the biggest disrespect you could ever say to a footballer," he added.

Noel Fitzgerald: Should be the Europa League for United. We are not going to win the League obviously and even top four looks unlikely. The FA cup would be a bonus but if we win the Europa League, we will qualify for the Champions League next season

Nye Crozier: We are 90 minutes away from a major trophy, so I'll admit I was a little concerned to see a full strength side starting tonight, but realistically the Europa League is our only prospect of Champions League football next season. If we won either of those trophies I'd be happy

Jordan Gibson: United's best possible season at the minute would be FA cup win, Europa league win and finish 5th or something, and even that is unlikely

Ticket booked? Transport arranged? Cover at work sorted? Not for tonight's match silly. I'm talking about Liverpool's big game of the week - Sunday's trip to Wembley.

Most Reds fans will be forgiven for glancing past tonight's game and focusing on the League Cup final against Manchester City. But not the players or manager Jurgen Klopp.

"We should not think too much about the final," says the former Borussia Dortmund coach. "We should be concentrated Thursday, and Sunday will take care of itself."

Disturbing reports from Italy say hundreds of people have been arrested while one fan has been stabbed and is in hospital ahead of Lazio's Europa League tie with Galatasaray in Rome.

Last year fans of Dutch club Feyenoord caused millions of pounds worth of damage to some of the Italian capital's historic monuments.

Kabir Mandair: Got to be Europa League for LFC. Only way into Champions League in my opinion. Get the job over and done with early and rest for Sunday.

Ricky Jana: Man Utd's main priority is to see off this season and get a new manager in the summer.anything else is a bonus.

Max Baggins-Craig: Think Tottenham ought to concentrate on a CL spot instead. Pool concebtrate on a EL spot. Utd just concentrate on a top 10 place....

    Part III

Arguably the tie of the round is the heavyweight clash that comes in the batch of 20:05 GMT kick-offs. FC Porto and Borussia Dortmund have been crowned European champions three times between them, but it is advantage to the Germans after a 2-0 home win for Thomas Tuchel's side last week.

But Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas, no stranger to success during his time at Real Madrid, reckons his side can shock tournament favourites Dortmund and overturn their advantage.

"I'm confident that, with the ever-present support of the fans, we can do it. We are Porto," says the Spain international.

Holders Sevilla, who are bidding for a third straight Europa League, hold a 3-0 lead over Molde, while La Liga rivals Villarreal go to Italian title chasers Napoli with a 1-0 lead.

    Part II

Apart from the Liverpool game, the pick of the other 18:00 GMT kick-offs is Valencia's sightseeing trip to Rapid Vienna.

Gary Neville and his players might as well swing by Schoenbrunn Palace and the Austrian capital's other tourist attractions - they're on a jolly. The Spanish side are 6-0 (six) to the good after the first leg. No wonder G Nev is laughing...

Another La Liga team hoping to advance is Athletic Bilbao, who hold a tighter 1-0 lead over French visitors Marseille.

Several ties are delicately poised, with nothing between Lazio and Galatasaray (1-1) and Schalke and Shakhtar Donetsk (0-0), while Bayer Leverkusen have a slender 1-0 advantage over Sporting Lisbon for the second leg in Germany.

But there are not just the three matches involving the English Premier League sides taking place tonight. Oh no.

We have feast of football taking place across Europe. Teams from the length and breadth of the continent, from Norway to Turkey, Portugal to Russia, are all vying to nab a spot in the last 16.

Lokomotiv Moscow and Fenerbahce have already kicked off, the home side leading 1-0 on the night but trailing 2-1 on aggregate.

They have taken over the city centre, bringing plenty of colour and noise to an otherwise dreary Thursday afternoon.

Decided on what one word you would choose to describe the Europa League? Let us know. And keep it much cleaner than Louis van Gaal please.

Liverpool fans - are you bothered about the competition? Or is it an unwelcome distraction ahead of Sunday and the prospect of winning only your second piece of silverware in a decade?

Man Utd fans - we know you all think this competition is 'Mickey Mouse'. But it is your best chance of earning a Champions League return isn't it?

And Spurs fans - sorry to remind you, but your heroes haven't won the English league title for 55 years. Will a Europa League run hamper your chances of ending that barren run?
