    Man Utd 0-0 West Ham

West Ham win a free-kick and cause all manner of havoc with it but somehow a claret and blue shirt doesn't poke it home.

Good point made by Childish Grantino there. If you took the Manchester United job this summer, and had unlimited say in the transfer market, who would you keep?

RegularJon:, external For a big guy, Fellaini can't head. He threatens to get sent off every game. He's not mobile enough in a two-man midfield. Get rid!

Viv:, external Surely a replay of the Arsenal v Watford second half will be better than what MU & WHFC are currently playing on the field.

Childish Grantino:, external Man Utd have spent so much money over the last few years, yet, I can still identify three positions where they need players.

    In your face, maths teacher...

Note to boring maths teacher. The circumference is the distance around the circle. The perimeter is the correct term, when in reference to the physical boundary.

Manchester United build play patiently for some time, then resort to scorching a 60-yard punt in the direction of Marouane Fellaini. Darren Randolph again comes off his line to catch it and this time the pass id met by howls from the crowd.

Manchester United supporters have just groaned in frustration as the ball went backwards instead of into an attacking position. West Ham have certainly shown greater fluency.

Marouane Fellaini is trying to exert some influence but is an ungainly figure and has only put further pressure on himself by picking up that yellow card for a daft foul on Mark Noble.

Excellent question Karthik. If either of them were to fall over in a forest, would it make a sound?

Marouane Fellaini is now booked for tugging back Mark Noble. Soft.

  11. Waiting for goal-0published at 27 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 West Ham

The art of the early goal seems to have deserted us this weekend. I had to wait 85-odd minutes at Reading on Friday night, the full 90+ at Norwich and 77 minutes at Everton. Come on...

Ander Herrera does shoot - but well over.

  12. West Ham make impressive startpublished at 16:27 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2016

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Old Trafford

West Ham arrived at Manchester United full of confidence and it shows as they have much the better of the early phases.

Mark Noble is controlling midfield and both Andy Carroll and Emmanuel Emenike have troubled the home defence in the air.

The home fans are subdued while the 9,000 travelling West Ham fans are in noisy and buoyant mood.

"Brilliant play from Mark Noble, who beat two Manchester United players as if they were not there, then it went to Dimitri Payet to the overlapping Aaron Cresswell and Emmanuel Emenike could not get the power into his header.

"If that was Andy Carroll with the header then it would have been 1-0."

Michael Carrick has basically turned into a midfielder who doesn't leave the perimeter of the centre circle. He lazers a 40-yard ball over the top looking for Marouane Fellaini's head but West Ham keeper Darren Randolph sweeps up and claims it.

  17. CLOSE!published at 19 mins

West Ham should be ahead! Mark Noble with a great ball out to Dimitri Payet, he waits and then sends Aaron Cresswell on the overlap, the cross needs to be good and it is! He picks out Emmanuel Emenike six yards out, but his header is a backpass!

Got to score. That's two good chances for Emenike already...

Marcus Rashford is a fox in the box, finding a yard of space to attack another good cross from Guillermo Varela. Has West Ham's early energy dissipated somewhat?

Promising from the hosts as the youngsters link up, Guillermo Varela to Marcus Rashford, spins out of a tackle and finds Jesse Lingard, he drives on and shoots left-footed - but it's always going wide.

I fear that ship may have sailed for Mark Noble. Although why not give him and Danny Drinkwater a go? That's what the upcoming friendlies are for.

Aaron Cresswell may not be a million miles away, he's started brilliantly today.
