Manchester City have started the better of these two teams, if such a judgement can be made after five minutes. The visitors are currently pinning the men in blue inside their own half, pressing high, pressing with energy.

Blimey. Manchester City on the counter-attack. Kevin de Bruyne pings the ball back to Sergio Aguero and the Argentine is a fraction from side-footing his first-time effort into the net.

Manchester City spraying the ball around nicely in the opening minute, between the back to midfield, and then Aleksandar Kolarov springs a long ball towards Samir Nasri and eventually the visitors lose possession.

Can Chelsea burst Manchester City's Champions League bubble? (See what I did there? I know, I'm sorry.)

Anyway, under three minutes until referee Mike Dean blows his whistle. Exciting times ahead. Hopefully.

Sergio Aguero is still in the race for the Golden Boot, which he won last season. The Argentine has 18 goals this campaign, just four behind leading scorer Harry Kane. He scored twice against West Brom last weekend and another brace will put pressure on leading contenders Kane and Jamie Vardy.

Yaya Toure jovially grabs Mikel around the neck as both sets of players line up in the bowels of the stadium. "Forward, forward, forward," yells Joe Hart. The goalkeeper is a tad pumped up.

So, the defending champions lie 10th in the league with six games remaining, 13 points behind the top four. Disappointing? For Chelsea fans, yes.

They were beaten by Swansea last weekend, ending their 15-match unbeaten run in the league but the good news for the Blues is that Guus Hiddink has not lost two league games in a row as a club manager since February 2004 whilst at PSV Eindhoven.

Take from that what you will.

    Jonathan Pearce
Match of the Day commentator at Stamford Bridge

"Chelsea should be celebrating Manchester City's run to the Champions League semi-finals. It virtually ensures that English clubs will stay ahead of Italy in Uefa's coefficient table, external for a couple more seasons at least - guaranteeing the Premier League four places at Europe's top table.

"Now, though, Chelsea have a point to prove. Playing for their future under Antonio Conte, they'll be determined to maintain Guus Hiddink's unbeaten home league record. But they look jaded again.

"City need to ensure a top-four finish of course. Aguero needs to start scoring regularly again - he has two in nine in all for club and country. Kevin De Bruyne, brilliant against PSG, is ready to show Chelsea what they let go."

The light at the end of the tunnel of an otherwise underwhelming season for Manchester City is their continued presence in the Champions League. With PSG dealt with to book a first ever semi-final in the competition, City next face its most successful ever side: Real Madrid.

The draw offers up a few intriguing prospects: Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester, Manuel Pellegrini's return to Madrid and the possibility that City may face the man that will be leading them next season in the final - Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola.

And then there's De Bruyne's compatriot, last season's player of the year.

It's been a campaign to forget for the playmaker, with interim manager Guus Hiddink admitting the Belgium international is in a "dark place".

The 25-year-old has yet to score a goal this season and, as he misses this match through injury, he won't be changing that statistic this weekend at least. "The contrast is huge," says Hiddink of this season and the last. Indeed.

  15. Returning to haunt Chelsea?published at 17:09 British Summer Time 16 April 2016

Chelsea v Man City (17:30 BST)

We've enough time to talk about Kevin De Bruyne, a player who asked to leave Chelsea in 2014 because he felt he wasn't getting enough first-team opportunities, and a player who has proven, in his first season, that he is a vital cog in City's expensively-assembled machine.

It is no coincidence that City's title challenge fell apart during the midfielder's two month injury absence.

Since his return earlier this month he has scored three goals in four appearances - including the winner against PSG which ensured City's Champions League progress. Not bad, not bad at all.

Hello. You've come across live text commentary of Chelsea's tussle with Manchester City. I wouldn't go as far as to say you're lucky, but it's no bad thing to keep up to date with the goings on at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have an unbeaten home record under Guus Hiddink to maintain, while Champions League semi-finalists City could do with a victory to swat away Manchester United's Champions League challenge.

  19. A campaign like no otherpublished at 16:55

Chelsea v Man City (17:30 BST)

April is hurtling towards May, the season is nearing its conclusion but neither Manchester City or Chelsea have a hope of winning the title. The defending champions have nothing to play for, their northern rivals are scrapping for fourth.

What sort of erratic, whimsical campaign is this? Ah, yes, the sort where Leicester City are closing in on becoming Premier League champions.

Incredible, barmy, never to be forgotten. Unless you're a Chelsea fan, of course, or a City supporter...
