  2. 'One of Fabregas' best games'published at 17:52 British Summer Time 23 April 2016

    Bournemouth 1-4 Chelsea

Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink: "We're very pleased with the performance, especially in the second half. It was a very open, entertaining game, Bournemouth have a very good build up and create good chances. We made some changes at half-time and after that we were very dominant. It was good discipline and good to see some players who have been absent recently, scoring goals."

On Cesc Fabregas:"He is one of the few players who has this vision, he knows he can execute what he's creating and he's very effective. I think this was one of his best games for us. But there has to be a good balance of players around him in the team."

    Bournemouth 1-4 Chelsea

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe: "It was an even game, certainly for the first half I thought we were terrific - the difference between the sides was how they finished their goals. We created a number of chances but didn't have their clinical edge. Second half, they were better and I thought their attitude to the game was spot on, that's why it ended up being such a high quality game. They counter attack very well and caused us problems. We looked dangerous, but the speed of the counter attacking and the quality they showed was very high.

"The beauty of our run-in, which is so tough on paper, is that we're learning all the time. We're still finding our feet at this level, they've been harsh lessons for us but hopefully we'll come out of it a better team."

At the other end of the table, the battle to join Northampton in gaining promotion remains tight. Accrington are second, one point ahead of Oxford United - who beat Hartlepool 2-0. In fourth and just one point behind Oxford are Bristol Rovers, who beat Exeter 3-1.

    Aston Villa 2-4 Southampton

Aston Villa caretaker-manager Eric Black, speaking to BBC Sport: “We created more chances. We had two or three chances, and if we’d taken them, we might have got something. But if we have to score five goals at home to win a game, then we’re going to be in for a tough challenge. We did get a response under difficult circumstances, but it wasn’t enough to win the game.

“We conceded poor goals that put us on the back foot. There was a response, and credit for that, but on the day it wasn’t enough.

“The fans are entitled to vent their displeasure. It’s not an ideal atmosphere, but it’s understandable, given the circumstances. We have to continue to be professional."

    Aston Villa 2-4 Southampton

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman, speaking to BBC Sport: "Scoring four goals away from home is good but we conceded two and that is not like Southampton. We gave Villa the belief that they could get a better result. In the end, we were by far the better team. It was a good result finally, and we’re on to the next game.

"Scoring goals was not a problem today, but in general we have been missing too many opportunities away from home. That is why we are a little way behind the fifth and sixth positions in the table.

"It was difficult because it was a strange atmosphere - but even more so for the home team. It’s a shame that Aston Villa have been relegated because it is a great club and stadium. I hope they are back before too long."

    Liverpool 2-2 Newcastle

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez, speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm really pleased because of the passion and fight they showed. We changed two or three little things but we were still working hard and believed we could do it. A draw is fine for us at the moment.

"When you are bottom of the table and can still see this spirit and fight you have to be pleased. It's a bigger step for us because we can keep believing. every game now for us is massive. I have the Geordies and the Scousers on my side."

    Liverpool 2-2 Newcastle

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Match of the Day: "It was a clear penalty on Daniel Sturridge. i don't know why the referee didn't use the whistle.

"There is nothing to criticise about attitude. Even when it was a draw I only saw chances on one side. Usually we should win a game in this situation but have to accept it.

"Nobody understands why they [Newcastle] are in the relegation zone."

On defender Mamadou Sakho being investigated by Uefa after failing a drugs test: "We have made a statement and that's all we can say at this moment and want to say."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "No, I'm not angry. It doesn't feel like we won a point. It feels like we have lost it. It's not our best day.

"It was an intensive game. Newcastle had two shots and two goals. We had a few more shots and could have scored more goals but didn't and have to take what we can get."
