    Jermaine Jenas
Ex-Spurs & England midfielder on Final Score

"I don't see any hope for Newcastle here. They won't get anything out of it without changing things drastically. Newcastle are no disgrace but Liverpool are just so confident, they're popping it around creating chance after chance. Newcastle are struggling to even hold on to the ball."

    Liverpool 2-0 Newcastle

At last! A chance for Newcastle. It's flagged offside but at least we see a bit of purpose about their attack now. Vurnon Anita races down the right, crosses for Papiss Cisse, who glances a header just wide. The linesman had spotted him straying offside as the cross was made.

  3. League One updatespublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 23 April 2016

Leaders Wigan look certain to confirm their return to the Championship in the coming weeks as they lead Southend 2-0.

Bradford and Walsall who started the day third and fifth are still goalless at Valley Parade and fourth placed Millwall lead 1-0 at Bury.

At the bottom Shrewsbury have an important lead against Gillingham which moves them four points clear of the drop zone as it stands.

Colchester will be down with anything other than win against Burton who can confirm their play-off place but the game is currently goalless.

Elsewhere, promotion-chasing Hull are losing 1-0 at home to Leeds and already relegated Bolton are leading 1-0 at Cardiff who are just outside the play-offs.

At the bottom MK Dons need a win to keep their survival battle going another week and are currently drawing 1-1 with Brentford.

Poor defending let Villa down for the first goal and it lets them down again as Southampton double their lead. Shane Long is straight onto a poor backpass and races down on goal. He shruggs off Joleon Lescott inside the area, passes to Dujan Tadic, who sweeps into the net.

"Some will say Adam Lallana hasn't done it enough at Liverpool but that touch and finish, from about 20 yards out, was excellent. Another assist from Moreno at left-back.

"There wasn't much Newcastle could have done about it. Sometimes all you can do is put your hands up and say: 'You know what? That was brilliant'."

Cesc Fabregas said recently he had forgotten how to play football but it looks like he has remembered today. A neat clip finds Eden Hazard and the forward drives in from outside the box.

That, amazingly, is his first league goal of the season

    Aston Villa 0-1 Southampton

More woodwork-based woe for Southampton as Virgil van Dijk's low strike smacks the base of the post. Villa are living a bit of a charmed life at the moment.

    Adam Lallana (30 mins)

Lovely, and deserved, goal as Liverpool take control. Alberto Moreno cuts in from the left and feeds the ball to Adam Lallana just inside the D. He takes one touch before bending the ball into the top left corner.

A molehill just became a mountain for Newcastle.

Newcastle still have not got going in this game. Not a single shot on or off target as yet. What do they need to do to improve? Getting close to the Liverpool area would be a start.

"Bournemouth really should have scored. Cook needed to get over it, but you can't rely on centre-halves sometimes unfortunately...

"Just before that, Ivanovic had about five or six yards on King but still the Cherries forward got there first. Either King is a lot quicker than we thought or Ivanovic is losing pace rapidly."

    Aston Villa 0-1 Southampton

Aston Villa's defence may be letting them down but at least their attackers are giving it a go and they are not far off an equaliser as Leandro Bacuna heads just wide from Ashley Westwood's cross.

"I don't want to talk too much about Aston Villa's poor defending because that would be taking something away from Bertrand's cross - he whipped in an absolute beauty, right onto Shane Long's head."

  17. CLOSE!published at 15:21 British Summer Time 23 April 2016

    Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea

Are Bournemouth players on the beach with Premier League safety all but secured? Not quite, they are actually giving it a go now and go close twice in quick succession.

First, Josh King rifles over from a corner, before Steve Cook misses an open goal after Asmir Begovic is left exposed when he flaps at a corner.
