Will we see the Clarets back in the top flight next season?

The European season may be simmering nicely, but back in the Championship it's almost boiling over already.

Tonight sees a full programme packed into the already chocka schedule and there are huge games at the top and bottom to keep an eye across.

Leaders Burnley could go six points clear tonight but host Cardiff in a tricky game. Cardiff are just a place outside of the play-offs.

Second-placed Middlesbrough host Huddersfield, while Brighton (in third) are at Birmingham. Fourth plays sixth as Hull go to Derby.

Barca coach Luis Enrique: "The game against Real Madrid was good for 65 minutes. Of course we made mistakes, but that is normal when your opponents are a quality team. We are not machines and I'm satisfied with what I saw. We had almost forgotten how it felt to lose, but I hope it will be motivation for us to get back on a winning streak again."

Mattthew Helfet: Iniesta/Alves are no spring-chickens, Pogba and Sime Vrsaljko would be good replacements, Stones would be a natural heir to Pique

Barcelona v Atletico Madrid (19:45 GMT)

Atletico Madrid have kept 13 clean sheets in their past 17 Champions League games. That record will come under serious scrutiny this evening!

Barcelona have progressed to the Champions League semi-finals in seven of the last eight campaigns, the only exception coming in 2013-14 when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by…Atletico Madrid.

Like a continental Northampton Town, Barcelona had all but forgotten what it was like to lose a game before last weekend's El Clasico defeat at the hands of rivals Real Madrid.

Barca had not lost in 39 games (THIRTY-NINE!) - an incredible effort.

So is tonight the start of another huge run? Or the start of a wobble? We shall see...

  9. 'We are not the favourites'published at 19:03 British Summer Time 5 April 2016

Bayern Munich v Benfica (19:45 GMT)

    Errr, yes you are...

Bayern boss Pep Guardiola: "I am Bayern coach and we always want to be the best but I really don't think we are the favourites going into this. Benfica are playing very well at the moment and I have to admit I am very impressed.

"For the people of Munich I understand and accept that only the treble will do. If we don't win it, I know for many it is simply not good enough. But there are many quality teams. The most important thing is that we give it our best shot."

If Bayern are to go on and win the Champions League again this season, striker Robert Lewandowski is likely to play a big role.

The striker has scored 13 times in 14 club appearances in 2016. He has registered 10  of Bayern's 20 league goals since the winter break and has 44 goals in 47 outings for club and country in 2015-16.

    PROLIFIC.

    Brilliant Barca

Their 39-game run came to an end at the weekend but Barcelona remain big favourites to win the Champions League again this season. Their front three are formidable, and the rest of the side is also brilliant.

Our question tonight though is a simple one:

How can Barcelona be improved next year?

Who should they be looking to sign/replace?

Bayern Munich v Benfica (19:45 BST)

Three changes for Bayern Munich as Douglas Costa, Arturo Vidal and Joshua Kimmich all come in. Arjen Robben misses out.

For Benfica, on-loan Fulham striker Konstantinos Mitroglou starts. The Greece international has 21 goals in all competitions for the Portuguese side this season.

The real dangerman for Benfica, though, is Jonas. The most in-form striker in Europe has bagged 32 goals in 36 appearances.

Bayern XI: Neuer, Thiago, Ribery, Lewandowski, Costa, Bernat, Lahm, Vidal, Muller, Alaba, Kimmich

Benfica XI: Ederson, Almeida, Lindelof, Jardel, Eliseu, Fejsa, Renato, Pizzi, Gaitan, Jonas, Mitroglou

Barcelona v Atletico Madrid (19:45 GMT)

Barcelona are like Leicester. Why? Because, like the Foxes, you can recite their starting XI like you can the opening verse of Hey Jude. German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen comes in for the Champions League, as usual, in the only change from Saturday's El Clasico.

Atletico's side has a familiar look too - especially because key centre-half Diego Godin returns after a three-week injury absence. The Uruguayan and Belgium midfielder Yannick Carrasco start as coach Diego Simeone makes two changes from the 5-1 win against Real Betis.

Barca XI: Ter Stegen, Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Alba, Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta, Messi, Suarez, Neymar.

Atletico XI: Oblak, Juanfran, Godin, Lucas, Filipe Luis, Gabi, Saul, Koke, Carrasco, Griezmann, Torres.

Bayern Munich v Benfica (19:45 GMT)

With two Bundesliga titles, a German cup, a Uefa Super Cup and a Club World Cup title already in his back pocket, what does Pep Guardiola need before he leaves Bayern in the summer?

A Champions League win, of course! Bayern were beaten in the semi-finals by Real Madrid in his first season, and in the last four by Barca last year.

They are overwhelming favourites to beat Benfica and make it into the final four again.

Barcelona v Atletico Madrid (19:45 GMT)

Atletico will not be overawed by the task ahead of them tonight.

They met Barca in the quarter-finals of 2014 and after a first-leg 1-1 draw at the Nou Camp, won 1-0 at home to move on through.

This season the sides have met twice in La Liga, with Barca picking up a 2-1 win at the Calderon in September and a repeat 2-1 victory at the Nou Camp in January.

All money on 2-1 tonight then?

No team has ever retained the Champions League trophy since Uefa rebadged their flagship competition in 1992.

But no team has (arguably) been better placed to hold onto the big cup than this Barcelona team.

With a front three of Suarez, Neymar and Messi most teams would fancy their chances - never mind when you add in the rest of Luis Enrique's superstars.

Is this the year Barca retain their title? Or will Atletico Madrid serve up another nasty surprise?
