Michael Griffin: Klopp is definitely worth the hype, he's improved us a lot already, but I'm still dreading Dortmund in full flow tonight!

Stnaley Chimezie: Klopp did well at Dortmund but tonight he'll fall where he once stood..At the Signal Iduna Park.

Both these teams disposed of English opposition in the last round.

Liverpool saw off fierce rivals Manchester United with a 2-0 home leg win, followed by a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. It was actually quite comfortable for the Reds in the end.

Dortmund dealt with Premier League title-challenging Tottenham, ominously outclassing them 3-0 in Germany before finishing the job with a 2-1 win in north London.

It won't come as a surprise to you that Dortmund are tournament favourites. In other news, bears defecate in the woods.

Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund have met before in European competition - only three times, though.

The most recent came in 2001 when the pair met in the Champions League group stage. Dortmund managed a 0-0 home draw and lost  2-0 at Anfield. The goal-scorers for the latter? Vladimir Smicer and Stephen Wright (remember him?).

The only other time came in the final of the Cup Winners Cup in an otherwise pretty uneventful year for football; 1966. Dortmund won that game 2-1 after extra-time at Hampden Park, Glasgow thanks to goals from Sigfried Held and Reinhard Libuda. Roger Hunt scored for the Reds.

Colin Todd: Massive improvement on Rodgers. Lovren and Allen look like different players. Nobody played out of position helps.

It is not just Klopp that these two clubs have in common. They both also use You'll Never Walk Alone as an anthem. The origins of Dortmund using the song may well date back to the Cup Winners Cup final in 1966 I mentioned earlier.

If you think the rendition you get an Anfield on a match day is stirring, prepare for it in stereo tonight.

Borussia Dortmund v Liverpool is one of four Europa League quarter-final first legs being played tonight. It is the one that will occupy most of this live text commentary.

For the record, here are the other matches (all kicking off at 20:05 BST):

    Athletic Bilbao v Sevilla

    Sporting Braga v Shakhtar Donetsk

    Villarreal v Sparta Prague

    I think we've made a wise choice.

    Mark Lawrenson
    Former Liverpool defender in Dortmund

"I think Dejan Lovren is starting to look like the player Liverpool originally bought. Alongside Clyne they are the two best defenders Liverpool have and when you think about the power Dortmund have, Liverpool have to be absolutely spot on tonight."

You're not kidding Lawro. These Dortmund forwards don't mess about. Tottenham have the best defensive record in the Prem this season and Aubameyang et al took them to the cleaners.

Only four players involved in the Europa League quarter-finals have played all 900 minutes of their sides' campaigns. They are Villarreal CF's Víctor Ruiz, Athletic's Iago Herrerín, Sparta's Costa and Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

The Reds number one has his critics (probably more than he'd like) but in fairness to him his European form has been pretty good. He has not conceded more than once in any of the fixtures to date, keeping five clean sheets in 10.

French football expert on BBC Radio 5 live

“I don’t think Liverpool can win. Dortmund have been fantastic. They are incredible, especially going forward. Defensively you could maybe get at them. But their movement on and off the ball is incredible. The way they destroyed Tottenham is a bad omen. Liverpool can try and do something over two legs but on paper you see Dortmund going through.”

If you look down the results list for Dortmund this season and have a little glance at the scorers column one name crops up repeatedly. It is that of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabonese striker has received rave reviews (and attracted more than a few scouts to the BVB Stadion) this season for scoring 23 goals in 26 Bundesliga matches for Borussia. In Europe, he has seven in eight, three of which came in the two legs against Tottenham.

The boy is sharper than Sheffield United's current number 10 wearing a Man Utd kit from the 90s.

Khan Karn: Hope Klopp got it right with Origi, to me Sturridge still seems a much better option as we must take our chances.

Robo Neuer: Contrast with Dortmund lineup. That's a team that could win the Champions League, let alone the Europa League.

A boost for Borussia Dortmund as defender Mats Hummels returns. He missed the 3-2 win at home to Werder Bremen at the weekend with a calf strain.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marco Reus and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who have scored 75 goals between them, lead a dangerous looking Dortmund attack.

Borussia Dortmund XI: Weidenfeller, Piszczek, Bender, Hummels, Schmelzer, Castro, Weigl, Durm, Mkhitaryan, Reus, Aubameyang. Subs: Burki, Sahin, Ginter, Leitner, Pulisic, Sokratis, Kagawa.

“I can tell you that Dortmund privately, although nobody will confirm this, are very happy that the first game is at Dortmund. Because the scenario of Jurgen Klopp knocking out Dortmund with Liverpool at Dortmund and the fans half celebrating and half crying with their former hero – that would have been so awkward.

"They are doing everything this week to say we owe him gratitude but he is the enemy. They are a little bit afraid. He is the name synonymous with Dortmund’s rise over the last seven years and he’s coming back and threatening to derail a chance of a big trophy. It’s a real problem for them to get the emotional balance right between giving him respect but wanting to win the game."

Divock Origi warms upImage source, Getty Images

Divock Origi returns to the starting line-up for Liverpool as Daniel Sturridge drops to the bench.

Sturridge started in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday, but Jurgen Klopp has opted to go with the 20-year-old Origi at the spearhead of his attack. On the bench is Roberto Firmino, who has recovered from a hamstring injury.

Liverpool XI: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno, Henderson, Can, Milner, Lallana, Coutinho, Origi. Subs: Ward, Toure, Smith, Allen, Ibe, Firmino, Sturridge.
