    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini, speaking to BT Sport: "I am very satisfied, not only because we won the game and qualified for the semi-finals, but because we won in the style of play we want. We didn't want to draw 0-0, we showed from the start we wanted to beat PSG.

"Kevin de Bruyne is an important player for us, we deserved a goal before he scored. We dominated that game from the beginning until the end.

"I trust my team so much, the penalty miss from Sergio Aguero was not the best moment. Once again, this team demonstrated the character and personality of a big team.

"I never understand the criticism we get. We beat Bayern Munich in my first season and lost against Barcelona in the round-of-16. In the second season, we didn't play well but beat Bayern Munich again and Roma, then we lost to Barca again. This season we won the group and now we beat PSG.

"I really don't understand the criticism or they don't understand Barcelona have better players.

"Vincent Kompany is a very important player, we play better with him in the side. We have a squad that shows we have a great squad.

"For me, now it is important to beat Chelsea and this club deserves to play in the Champions League."

  8. 'A good night for English football'published at 22:07 British Summer Time 12 April 2016

Man City 1-0 PSG (agg 3-2)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

The Times football correspondent Henry Winter: "There will be a lot of focus on City goalkeeper Joe Hart in the morning. The two saves from Zlatan Ibrahimovic's free-kicks were brilliant. He exuded the confidence of his side.

"I was disappointed by PSG tonight. City boss Manuel Pellegrini's tactics were good and they went for the goal. They didn't sit back. Kevin de Bruyne has come back at just the right time for them.

"This is a good night for English football, it has taken a battering in recent years. This is the exact tonic the country needed. The coefficient wasn't that important but English teams have been outclassed too often in Europe recently. City are now in the semi-finals."

A late, late, late winner has sent Middlesbrough to the top of the Championship. They beat Reading 2-1 while Leeds all but assured their Championship status for another season by edging Birmingham 2-1.

Fair to say the Middlesbrough twitter person was a bit excited. Is the first bit of the below tweet even a word?

"Well done Man City, they thoroughly deserved it and they worked their socks off. PSG couldn't get anything going and were anonymous in the final third.

"We criticised the back four, but they were solid, as were Fernandinho and Fernando.

"Even when they beat Dynamo Kiev, people asked questions and they did the same when they drew PSG. They haven't played well but they've gone through again.

"The Champions League suits City defenders Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala. The Premier League is a hard league, it is end-to-end and tough. Today they played a European game and ground out a result.

"It'll be interesting to see where PSG go from here, they have some ageing players in their team."
