A decent move by Liverpool as Joe Allen threads a pass to James Milner on the edge of the Villarreal area. Milner cleverly flicks the ball through to Jordon Ibe on the right but a mix up sees the ball go out for a goal kick.

I'd love to see some of these fixtures happen.

Half a chance for the hosts as Roberto Soldado's clever ball gives Mario Gaspar a glimpse of goal on the right side of the area but he smacks his shot over the bar.

Wondering why Philippe Coutinho was taken off? He's apparently feeling a little unwell. Jordon Ibe, who came on for Coutinho, hasn't really had a chance to make an impression in this game. That Villarreal defensive line is proving a tough nut to crack.

Foiled down the wings, Liverpool try going through the middle but that Villarreal defence is very compact, forcing James Milner to try and squeeze a shot through on the edge of the area. It is deflected behind for a corner, which the hosts deal with.

Now it is Liverpool's turn to attack as Alberto Moreno fires in a cross and it almost catches out Sergio Asenjo, who has to stretch to push the ball away to safety. 

Jonathan dos Santos may have an awful haircut but he takes a mean corner, whipping one in at pace for Cedric Bakambu, who smacks a header against the outside of the post.

And we are back under way.

I didn't think Jurgen Klopp would make a change so soon but he has, Jordon Ibe is on for Philippe Coutinho. An injury?

Will Jurgen Klopp keep his unbeaten run going? It is looking good so far. They look largely untroubled by Villarreal and he will be more than happy to take this result into the second leg.

"It has been frantic and you could see why Villarreal are classed as a very good side in Spain. Their shape is very good, they break very quickly. I'm saying that, but Mignolet has only had one decent save to make. And the best chance of the game has gone to Joe Allen.

"Liverpool's final ball has not been good enough to create many chances. A bit more quality in the final third and they could nick an away goal.

"Jurgen Klopp will be pleased so far, he would have taken 0-0 at the start."

One minute of timed added on at the end of this half. Liverpool attack through Roberto Firmino down the left but his low cross is easy pickings for the well organised Villarreal defence.

I was convinced Kolo Toure v Cedric Bakambu would be an absolute mismatch but I'm happy to admit I've got that one wrong so far. The Liverpool defender has the Villarreal man in his pocket and we've not seen any of Bakambu's explosive pace just yet.
