"It is a big debate about Stones. If you keep on playing out from the back, you're going to make mistakes. The question is: Do you want to keep doing that? I would love to see him doing that, because you'll end up with one of the best ball-playing centre-backs in the world."

John Stones, no pressure around him, heads back the ball to goalkeeper Joel Robles which earns applause from his team-mate. Wasn't the most difficult of tasks, but he did it well.

English players and fans love the little victories.

Not much going on in this game. In Kolkata, India, though, England have the big wicket of Chris Gayle in the World T20 final.

Callum Anderson: Hard not to conclude that Everton are dominating this game at the moment. In control and looking most likely to score.

Daniel Osunbor: Why does Michael Carrick keeps passing the ball backwards?? Disappointing.

Mitul Patel: Bet Rojo is dying for the half-time fag break.

Surely they have oranges at half-time?

United going the direct route this time as Daley Blind pings one from centre-back into the corner for the rapid Anthony Martial to chase.

He earns another corner from Republic of Ireland full-back Seamus Coleman but the following set-piece is awful.

"There are quite a few players slipping out there. Smalling feel a moment ago, and Lukaku almost got in. It's a very slick surface. You have to make use of that if you're a forward, and try to take advantage of those defensive errors."

United get a corner from the hard work of Marcus Rashford which Daley Blind takes.

Little man Anthony Martial towers above the Everton defence but can't get much purchase on it.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 26 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Everton

What boots do these England centre-backs wear? Maybe they've got slippers on. John Stones' slip for England in midweek proved costly and this time Chris Smalling is almost punished.

He tries to close down Romelu Lukaku but can't keep his footing, putting the Belgian through on goal, but goalkeeper David de Gea is off his line in a flashy to clear the danger.

    Excellent goalkeeping.

Christopher Ballett: Close to the strongest possible Everton side (arguably is their strongest). Haven't seen it often this season.

Little rhythm in the game so far, it's been very stop start. Anthony Martial's strike which went narrowly wide the best chance of the game thus far.

No problems for David de Gea.

Leighton Baines' flat free-kick comes off the wall and runs away for a corner...

...the Englishman himself takes the resulting kick which Romelu Lukaku rises highest to, but the header goes wide of goal.

  20. CLOSE!published at 17 mins

Ooof, almost the opener, the best chance of the game so far.

It's United's diminutive Frenchman Anthony Martial with the effort, across the goal, flashing inches wide of Joel Robles' right-hand post.

Should have been a corner though, took a slight nick off Leighton Baines on the way through.
