Bayern Munich will wonder what more they could have done.

They had 72% possession during the game, they had 33 shots on goal and forced Jan Oblak into nine saves. That missed penalty from Thomas Muller was key - though Atletico also missed one.

Atletico Madrid met - and lost to - city rivals Real Madrid two years ago and the teams could yet meet again.

Pep Guardiola leaves Bayern Munich as a loser in the semi-final in each of his three seasons. 

Diego Simeone has his staff in a hug, as the Bayern fans greet the result with a mixture of jeers and polite applause.
