Renato Sanches is not a right-sided midfield player, he is defensively a liability. He was ball watching there and it almost cost Portugal.

    Poland 1-1 Portugal

Poland have an attack and Arkadiusz Milik finds Kamil Grosicki, who instantly tries to play the ball to Robert Lewandowski behind him. The ball is behind the captain though, Grosicki should have gone for goal himself.

Moments later Milik has a chance himself as he tries to turn in Artur Jedrzejczyk's cross at the near post but Rui Patricio saves it.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 67 mins

    Poland 1-1 Portugal

Poland defender Kamil Glik - who is joining Monaco from Torino after Euro 2016 - wipes Cristiano Ronaldo out near the halfway line.

He's booked, but that's his first yellow card of the tournament so he is still eligible for the semi-finals.

Portugal full-back Cedric Soares almost scores one of the goals of the tournament. The Southampton player lines one up from an angle, at least 25 yards out, but his effort fizzes across goal and wide of the diving Lukasz Fabianski's post.

Poland's penalties against the Swiss were top drawer. They may be thinking that they can take it there again and win through. But I don't know why teams don't go for the win in 90 minutes. Be positive. It's there to be won!

If that was the other way around Ronaldo would go ballistic! He was never going to score from that angle. Pass it!

    Poland 1-1 Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players I've ever seen but he's so, so greedy. Nani slips him in with a good through-ball. Ronaldo is out wide, you just think 'don't shoot, you won't score from there', but predictably he does and it's into the side netting. Joao Mario was in the centre.

    Poland 1-1 Portugal

Artur Jedrzejczyk is caught offside for Poland, Renato Sanches appeared to switch off and let the Polish defender go past him but he got away with it.

This second half has been pretty dull so far. The intensity of the first half is gone.

Nani whips in a cross which Cristiano Ronaldo tries to get his head onto. Poland keeper Lukasz Fabianski grabs it but then almost fumbles it under pressure from Ronaldo. The Swansea man gets away with it.

It's a very good start for Poland, they are knocking the ball about with purpose and tempo. Portugal have switched off, you would think that it was the 90th minute already. They have dropped right off, just letting Poland do what they want.

Poland right-back Lukasz Piszczek crosses into his former Borussia Dortmund team-mate Robert Lewandowski, but the captain is under pressure from Cedric Soares and his header is saved by keeper Rui Patrício.

No real pattern of play in the second half so far. Both sides piecing together spells of passing without going anywhere in particular.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been having words with the referee in the tunnel as they come out for the second half. He was furious not to get a penalty in the first half.

    He still looks livid.

There's been no doubt of the star of the first half - Renato Sanches.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who has cost Bayern Munich at least £27.5m from Benfica this summer, has had more touches than anyone else on the pitch (50).

He has attempted more passes than any of his team-mates (35) with a higher accuracy (94.3%) than any of them. Most of them have come in Poland's half (30, with 96.7% accuracy).

And he's scored their only goal too...

Two good goals we have seen tonight, it is quite even. Poland scored early and looked like they were going to go on but they then sat deep and Portugal came on and scored a good equaliser. Both coaches will feel they can score. Portugal may feel they have a bit more to offer but with Lewandowski up top, Poland can easily score again.

The first Euro 2016 quarter-final is deliciously poised as the players go in for the break. There have been plenty of poor games at the tournament. This is not one of them.
