Joachim Low is in animated conversation with Mesut Ozil as the players head back out from the dressing room. Lots of hands. Thomas Muller gets in on the conference too.

I can tell them what the people want: Give us some goals. Please?

If we raised the tempo I don't know if Mario Gomez and Bastian Schweinsteiger can cope with that. They are not particularly fast and mobile.

    Matthias Siefert: Tactical innit.

Sean Watts: Tactically, this is a fascinating game. In terms of goal mouth action, though...

Ray Rosario: Could Germany and Italy skip the second half and go straight to penalties please?!

Germany are forcing Italy's full-backs to defend. Their back three becomes a back five. It's basically a 5-3-2, instead of a 3-5-2.

One of the most memorable episodes off the pitch at Euro 2016 was when Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo threw a TV reporter's microphone into the lake as the squad prepared for their final Group F game against Hungary later that day.

Well now, TV station CMTV report , externalthat the microphone has been recovered by divers, almost two weeks after the incident.

Germany should be ahead, but moments after Muller missed, Italy had this chance from Stefano Sturaro...

I'd have to agree with you Sam.

But I'd settle for just the second half matching up with those classic games of 1970, 1982, or 2006...

Sam Johnson: Probably the most boring first half of the Euros?

Daniel Woods: Would it be fair to say that Jereome Boateng is in with a shout of winning player of the tournament if he keeps this up?

A low-key first half at last showed some signs of life in those closing moments but so far this has been a case of two brilliantly drilled and organised sides indulging in Euro 2016's version of chess.

If tactical battles are your thing, this is the game for you. Germany have matched Italy up.

There's very little to talk about, very little goalmouth option. Unless something gives, and someone is willing to take a gamble - which I can't see happening - it could be a long night for us.

It has been quite boring for 40 minutes, it is a mental battle. We have tried to confuse them. Sometimes we press high up the pitch, sometimes we drop off to the edge of our box. The defenders have the upper hand. There is not enough football being played.

What a response from Italy. Giaccherini played in down the left, and bearing down on goal you think he could shoot, but it comes across and Sturaro's effort is agonisingly close to beating Neuer...

    I thought we had it...

Nerves. Both sides have got nerves and you saw that from Thomas Muller. He has never scored in the Euros and he won't get many better chances than that.

It's a good move from Germany on the left-hand side. It bounces in front of Thomas Muller. It's just a wild swing from him. He doesn't have that calmness in front of goal that we expect from him.

How many touches do you want? Finally a bit of space opens up for Germany but Thomas Muller fluffs his lines in a move that took in a pretty embarrassing contribution from Kimmich as well. That cut-back to the edge from Hector looked oh so promising.
