I'm trying to get into the heads of both sets of players and wondering why it is going so wrong in the final third.

Oh, for.... Croatia come forward and have a chance to deliver a decent ball but the ball from Brozovic is massively over-hit, over the heads of everyone and out for a goal-kick. For some reason Ivan Perisic applauds. He hasn't won a competition to play in this game Ivan, he should be much, much better than that.

Renato Sanches is now the second youngest player to appear in the Euro knockout stage (18y 311d), behind only Wayne Rooney in 2004 (18y 243d).

Renato Sanchez's first real contribution is a decent one (well, half of it is). He plays a little one-two on the edge of the box but pulls his shot badly wide.

Luka Modric scored a belter of a goal in Croatia's first match. But his radar suffers a serious malfunction as he attempts an effort from range. It turns a few fans in row Q into makeshift goalkeepers.

    'Now then'?

Looks like Bayern Munich are bringing a bit of Yorkshire to their Twitter account. I approve.

Chance! Croatia come forward down the left and a cross is swung in towards Marcelo Brozovic, who is just narrowly beaten to the ball. It gives Croatia a corner, which they take short to set up Brozovic again, but this time he fires over. That's more like it.

Ronaldo remains a peripheral figure. It doesn't help that his team-mates keep giving the ball away when they go on the attack.

I'm not sure what Fernando Santos has seen in the first three minutes of this half, but seen something he has. Either that or Andre Gomes has an injury, but it doesn't look like he is struggling. On comes Renato Sanches.

Pepe has defended very well. And I think he's the only player that hasn't rolled around on the floor yet.

Groans from the Portuguese fans as Joao Mario drives forward and then gives the ball away when he had a few options available to him.

Right, here we go. The players are on their way back out. Hopefully, we are going to see this game burst into life.

I feel for the people trying to dig some highlights out from that first half. So far, I've watched the replay of the Pepe header about 15 times. And that includes following the defender all the way back to his own half while he chastises himself for missing it. Slim pickings.

OK, that was pretty dire, so here are some of the best bits of the tournament so far...

Eighteen fouls and not a single yellow card. They've been petty fouls and often needless ones given by the referee.

Let's hope both sides come out in the second half and start the game properly. It's been very, very dull.

No shots on target in that half but Croatia have been marginally more offensive. They've had three efforts on goal (left graphic), compared to one for Portugal.

Incidentally, that's the first time Croatia have failed to score in the first half of a game at Euro 2016.

    If Coldplay did first halves...

Well, I don't think any of the fans present in Lens will regale their grandchildren with tales of that first half. Not unless the little ones simply will not go to sleep.
