That's a bit naughty from Ronaldo. He charges in to tackle Darijo Srna and stands on his foot. To be fair to the Portugal forward he is quick to apologise.

Soon after Mario Munzukic is not quite quick enough to latch on to a chipped ball into the box before Rui Patricio sprints out to collect.

This is now officially the longest we have had to wait for a shot on goal from the start of a Euro 2016 game. Brilliant.

At the moment, this is a peaceful drive in the country as opposed to a midnight street race. What can Ronaldo do to liven up matters? Not much as he is hammered hard barely a second after getting the ball.

I do find it strange that teams bring every single player back for a set piece like Croatia did for the corner. When you clear it and have nobody there it just comes straight back.

The first corner goes to Portugal, from what is pretty much their first attack. Joao Mario delivers but it is dealt with well by Croatia. So far, the team in red and white have had 70% possession.

Croatia think they have a corner after Pepe heads a long throw behind. But the referee has spotted an infringement. Nani is down after getting a poke in the eye.

It has been a very low-key opening 10. Craotai are dictating the tempo, keeping hold of the ball and stroking it along their back line patiently. They do realise we want end-to-end, attacking chaos, Kevin Keegan style?

It appears Portugal will set up differently in this game and play on the counter-attack, with Cristiano Ronaldo at the head of that

Boos already for Ronaldo from the Croatia fans. He might as well be wearing a red long-coat and have a hook for a hand.

Still all Croatia. Darijo Srna tries a long throw into the box but it is headed clear by Portugal. No efforts at goal yet.

The team in red and white have started on the front foot. Portugal are pinned back in their own half and have barely touched the ball yet.

Not the best of starts for Luka Modric, who slams his first pass straight out of play. Just a loosener.

We are under way. High hopes for this game. Could be a cracker. At the very least it has to be more entertaining than the Wales v Northern Ireland match, right?

  18. 'Two sides of great quality'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 25 June 2016

    Croatia v Portugal (20:00 BST)

Portugal coach Fernando Santos: "Stats mean nothing. There are two very strong sides. I have as my objective to try and win this game.

"Croatia have immense quality, just like we do. It will be a game with two sides full of great quality and sides who want to go through. It will be a great game, I'm sure. I think we can beat Croatia.

"It will be a totally different game to the ones we've had. Austria did things well against Portugal, and a lot of people thought we'd beat Iceland but it didn't happen. We are prepared to play a completely different game.

"Croatia have had a little bit more rest time. Obviously we'd have liked more time and I'm sure Croatia would've too. But right now we're here and there's no point crying over spilled milk."

  19. 'Atmosphere of togetherness'published at 19:54 British Summer Time 25 June 2016

    Croatia v Portugal (20:00 BST)

Croatia coach Ante Cacic: "This is a make-or-break kind of match. We are moving into the knockout rounds now and this match will only send one of two excellent teams into the next stage of the competition.

"We are facing a team consisting of extremely talented individuals. They perhaps weren't exceptionally impressive in their group in terms of points won, but they really played well.

"If we look back, we will remember that they were the dominant team in their matches and created many opportunities.

"We want to keep going for as long as possible at this tournament. After a long time, we finally have this atmosphere of togetherness in Croatia. Everyone is watching our matches on TV, everyone is rooting for us."

The players are in tunnel and some youngsters are out on the pitch waving their arms around because... well, it's a bit of a laugh innit. We'll have the day's third and final full game of Euro 2016 football very, very soon.
