Vieira151: So why is Joe Hart England's number one, again? He's cost England 3 goals in this tournament.

Purple Tentacle: Not to be mean, but is "Joe Hart will be disappointed with that" going to be England's tag line for the tournament?

David Robinson: I've said it once, I'll say it again, why is Joe Hart England's no.1? That is shocking and it's not the first time.

  3. 'Hart had to save that'published at 20:22 British Summer Time 27 June 2016

The defending was absolutely appalling. No one got close, no-one got a tackle in. Then the sidefoot shot at Joe Hart - he had to save that. That is as bad as the attempt to save Gareth Bale's free-kick.

It's not been a week for great advance planning. Has anyone in the England camp planned to be behind after 20 minutes?

Now then! This is a real test!

It's a great move but I'm afraid it's another goal to chalk down as a Joe Hart mistake.

Iceland pick out three or four swift passes, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson is free on the edge of the area and he gets a low shot away. Hart gets a hand on it, a big hand, but he can't keep it out.

    It trickles over the line...

Shoot on sight stuff now from England as Iceland mass in front of the goal. Harry Kane blitzes one over.

[Apart from conceding a silly goal] England have started well.

  8. AWAY!published at 16 mins

    England 1-1 Iceland

Vinnie Jones, Dave Challinor and Rory Delap would have loved that one. Long throw from Aron Gunnarsson, a flick on and then Ragnar Sigurdsson did the rest.

  9. CLOSE!published at 15 mins

    England 1-1 Iceland

What a hit that is! Another England corner is punched away by Hannes Thor Halldorsson, not convincingly, and Dele Alli absolutely cracks in a strike from 20 yards and that is only a yard over!

  10. Postpublished at 13 mins

    England 1-1 Iceland

Harry Kane wins a corner, his first real involvement thus far. Wayne Rooney whips it in, good ball, but Chris Smalling can't get on the end of it.

Shocking from England - and they cannot say they weren't warned,

England manager Roy Hodgson specifically mentioned Iceland's threat from long throws - but that message clearly didn't reach his players judging by Iceland's equaliser.

Extraordinarily sloppy stuff from England and Hodgson will be raging. Now it's the Iceland fans making all the noise.

James Foster: Where on earth was Walker! Handed that goal to them

Helles Mammut: England's defence is terrible, that was a carbon-copy of Iceland's first goal vs Austria

Purple tentacle: Wonderful, now we'll sit back and play like a bunch of schoolkids hoping to get a lucky goal with our 70% defensive possession

Daniel Sturridge is starting to come further and further inside from his station on the right wing. England want him to hold his place. It's already beginning to get congested in the middle.

  14. Postpublished at 10 mins

    England 1-1 Iceland

Raheem Sterling has made a bright start. He is caught on the ankles now in midfield and England have a free-kick which is headed clear under pressure. Iceland defend in huge packs but they do leave two men up.

    England 1-1 Iceland

That is ridiculous. It was tap in for Ragnar Sigurdsson. England full-back Kyle Walker lost his man. The Iceland coach warned England that his side were good at set-pieces.

England were warned of Iceland's threat at set-pieces but they couldn't handle the throw of Cardiff's Aron Gunnarsson. Back to square one...

What a start! That tosh about an early goal being crucial is rendered utter nonsense as Iceland equalise almost instantly!

A huge throw-in is launched in, Kari Arnason nods it on and Kyle Walker has lost his man and it's a tap-in for Ragnar Sigurdsson.

    Extraordinary start...

England lead! An early goal was always likely to be crucial tonight and Wayne Rooney has it. He drives the penalty hard and low into the corner. No mistake. Silences the Iceland fans behind that goal.

Wayne Rooney's 53rd goal for England, his seventh in a major finals.

Raheem Sterling through the middle, goalkeeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson comes out - penalty!

    England 0-0 Iceland

Eric Dier plays a tremendous pass out to Daniel Sturridge, who is hugging the touchline on that right wing. Real width. He comes inside, plays a one-two and then drags a tame effort wide.

Dele Alli then frees Raheem Sterling but his shot is blocked on the edge of the area. England hitting the ground running.
