    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender at the Etihad for BBC Radio 5 live

"Kane, Alli and Dier have such a great understanding, they know when to go, when not to go, we've already seen Alli going beyond Kane, and him dropping deep. Those three have to start. They are the three in form, and an understanding like that is a massive advantage going into a tournament.

"It's just where do you pop Wayne Rooney in? In Wilshere's position wouldn't be a bad move."

Jamie Vardy finds space on the left but rather predictably his cross is not good and goes through the green and into the rough. So far, so entertaining from England.

Danny Rose treads on an opponent but sportingly kicks the ball out so he can get some treatment. John Stones takes a chance at the back - believe it or not - but finds a pass into midfield.

    England 1-0 Turkey

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

"Real party atmosphere here after that flurry of early chances for both teams and, of course, Harry Kane’s goal. The England supporters' band are creating a right old din, as you would expect, but they do occasionally keep quiet long enough for chants of ‘En-ger-land’ to start up. The Turkey fans are far from quiet too."

Paul Thompson - the first man to say it. He won't be the last.

England will either win the tournament or crash out in disgrace. It's a never-ending cycle of hope and crushing disappointment. There is no known cure...

Jordan Winter: Surprised more Turkish players didn't appeal that decision. Horrendous call by the linesman.

Tom Mason: Hilariously good start. Love to think they can keep this up for the next few weeks, but I've been watching England too long...

Paul Thompson: We're gonna win the Euros!

Joe Hart has to go down to his right to save a tame effort from 12 yards, this is a cracking game in these early stages.

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender at the Etihad for BBC Radio 5 live

"What a block from Kyle Walker - he threw himself in front of Joe Hart. England were really exposed. These friendlies are a bit different, a bit more open, with five or six players playing for a place in the starting XI."

  9. CLOSE!published at 4 mins

    England 1-0 Turkey

Quite the game here as Turkey come close to a leveller! Hakan Calhanoglu lays the ball back from wide on the right, Ozan Tufan is in a pocket of space and drives in a low shot - brilliantly blocked by Kyle Walker!

    The best friendly ever...

    England 1-0 Turkey

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender at the Etihad for BBC Radio 5 live

"Dele Alli and Harry Kane. They've got such a magnificent understanding. The first-time finish from Kane was really cool. There might have been a suggestion of offside... But he's not going to complain about that."

    Harry Kane

Well, that didn't take long did it?!Harry Kane strokes England ahead and it's a lovely pass from Dele Alli to slip him in.

He was a yard offside but doesn't break stride to sidefoot into the corner from 12 yards out. Clinical!

"Fabulous ball from Harry Kane, but Vardy wasn't quite on the same wavelength - I thought he was going to take it round the keeper on his left. If he had, it would have been a simple tap-in."

Eric Dier almost makes a back three when England have the ball, England playing like Spurs. No bad thing.

Oh and a great early chance! Jamie Vardy starts wide left but he is basically through the centre already as Harry Kane slides a pass into him, a better touch and it's 1-0!

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender at the Etihad for BBC Radio 5 live

"I've got two formations England are most likely to play at the Euros; one slightly more attacking with just one holding midfielder - Eric Dier - and another with two defensive midfielders - Dier and James Milner. There might be an element of chopping and changing with the wide positions, maybe Adam Lallana and Andros Townsend featuring, but I don't think much will change otherwise."

A few jeers around the ground for the İstiklâl Marşı - the Turkish national anthem. All present and correct for God Save the Queen though. The man pressing play at the Etihad had more luck than the poor woman singing at Wembley yesterday.

From a first glance the ground looks maybe 70% full?

  19. 'No doubt over Wilshere fitness'published at 17:10 British Summer Time 22 May 2016

    England v Turkey (17:15 BST)

England manager Roy Hodgson: "I'm very confident (in Jack Wilshere's fitness). Today is an interesting game and both he and I are looking forward to it.

"Having seen him in training, I don't have any serious doubts over his fitness and I hope he will prove what an important player he can be for us.

"We've got two possibilities with Jamie Vardy, starting off with more classic three but there is no reason why we can't change that during the game to a more diamond formation.

"You can never talk for players but everyone is keen to go to the Euro's and keen to show they deserve to go.

"It is good to see my idea in having Marcus Rashford with us was not that stupid. We'll have to assess his knee injury and then I'll have a couple of days to talk to him."
