    England v Turkey (17:15 BST)

As Bevo says, this afternoon is the first time England have played in England but not at Wembley since 2007.

England played games around the country while Wembley was being redeveloped. It is a welcome return to those days.

England last played at Manchester City's ground just before Euro 2004. They beat Iceland 6-1, a young Wayne Rooney scoring twice, along with a brace from Darius Vassell and goals from Frank Lampard and Wayne Bridge...

"Today is the first time England have played a home game away from Wembley since the new version of the national stadium opened in 2007. The Etihad Stadium has been decked out in England livery to mark the event and, officially, it is being referred to as the 'Manchester City Stadium' today.

"The reason for that is that club sponsors are not allowed in on the international action, but this place is not short of monikers - it started off as the Commonwealth Stadium, then became the City of Manchester Stadium and then the Etihad. Can't we all just call it Eastlands again instead?"

England haven't played Turkey since a 0-0 draw in 2003 which is best remembered for David Beckham slamming a penalty into orbit.

Last time Turkey played in England was when Wayne Rooney made everyone sit up and take notice. His first start, in April 2003.

    Fantasy additions

If England could draft one player from a Euro 2016 rival, who would they have?

Mats Hummels for sure. Need a commanding centre half in there.

    Sam, London

I'd have David de Gea, the man wins games on his own and, knowing England, Joe Hart will probably have a clanger in the first group game to set the team up to fall at the first hurdle

    England v Turkey (17:15 BST)

It is 14 years since Turkey made it all the way to the World Cup semi-finals but this is no longer a 'golden generation.'

Of the current squad, just seven play their football outside of their homeland, with captain Arda Turan of Barcelona easily their most recognisable.

Turan has 17 goals for his country. Striker Burak Yilmaz - currently coining it in in China, is the only other man to reach double figures. He has 19 goals in 42 appearances.

"Torrential rain has turned to blazing sunshine as fans wait outside Etihad Stadium for the England team coach to arrive.

"The weather in Manchester cannot quite make up its mind today, but the reason England are here is to help Roy Hodgson make up his.

"Roy must lose three of his initial 26-man squad by 31 May but, slightly confusingly, he only has 19 players to choose from here - Manchester United and Liverpool players are excused from duty because of their recent matches, apart from Reds midfielder Jordan Henderson, who is one of those looking to prove himself worthy of a place on the plane to France."

    Fantasy Football

Let's imagine for a moment that there's a late rule change for Roy Hodgson and you to ponder.

If England were allowed to select ONE PLAYER from another European nation, who would you like to see picked?

    Sergio RamosImage source, Getty Images
    Image caption,

I'd have Sergio Ramos. England are short at centre-back, he's a ruthless so-and-so and he knows how to win...

Would you go with Gareth Bale in a front three with Vardy and Kane? Perhaps N'Golo Kante to join up with Danny Drinkwater in midfield?

Or Thomas Muller. Just floating about the place?

Let us know your suggestions. And why they would complete the jigsaw.

So is it a diamond in midfield with Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane up front? But where does that leave Raheem Sterling playing?

Or is more of a front three with Sterling wide and Vardy on the other side?

Who is in? Who is out?

I can rarely recall England going into a major tournament with so much uncertainty over the identity of their starting XI.

Roy Hodgson's side face Russia in their Euro 2016 opener in under three weeks. But who could accurately predict the starting XI right now?

It was back in March when England last played an international - days after that win in Germany, a back-to-Earth home defeat to a Dutch side who haven't even made it to the Euros.

Jamie Vardy put England ahead but a John Stones error ultimately proved costly. Both start again this evening.
