    Derby 0-0 Hull

A bit of concern for Derby midfielder Bradley Johnson here as he receives some attention from the physios after a clash of heads. Johnson is in for George Thorne, who will miss the next three months with a double leg fracture.

Thankfully, Johnson is OK to continue.

  2. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Derby 0-0 Hull

Neither side has managed to trouble either goalkeeper yet, but there have been a few touches for Hull keeper Eldin Jakupovic, in for the injured Allan McGregor.

It's a big game for the man who has only played two league games this season.

  3. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Derby 0-0 Hull

As expected, both sides just feeling each other out in the early stages of this match. It's not the sort of game you should really go for broke in early on.

Neither have really been able to string a few passes together yet, though.

Both these sides have led the table at some point this season - Hull as recently as February.

But, at a glorious looking iPro Stadium today, they begin their fight to reach Wembley and potential earnings of £170m. That is a ludicrous amount of money.

If you were inclined, you could buy about 1.4 billion bananas with that. That is an awful lot of potassium.

The teams are on their way out into the cauldron of the iPro Stadium. We are moments away from kick-off.

I wonder how they are all feeling right now? Nervous to make an error or excited to be a potential hero?

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker at iPro Stadium, BBC Radio 5 live

"Derby were fifth when Darren Wassall took over, so he wasn't taking over a struggling side. He hasn't reinvented the wheel.

"He's taken over a really good squad - they've got Blackman, Butterfield, Baird, Bent, Hendrick, Buxton and Grant on the bench! You'd love a squad like that.

"He's done fine, but the ultimate test is now."

Football always throws up strange twists of fate and Derby have not let us down on that front.

Harry Redknapp, the man who led QPR to a 1-0 win over Derby in the Championship play-off final in 2014, is now the Rams' football advisor.

I presume his job is to help give the right advice to Darren Wassall to get them promoted, not that some Rams players want to speak to 'Arry about it...

"(Redknapp) said to me that he thought I played well (at Wembley), but I didn't want to continue the conversation," said Derby midfielder George Thorne, who sadly will miss this year's play-off campaign because of a broken leg.

  11. 'Two experienced sides'published at 12:20 British Summer Time 14 May 2016

    Derby v Hull, 12:30 BST

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker at iPro Stadium, BBC Radio 5 live

"(Hull manager) Steve Bruce has to try to transfer some of his experience to his players, but players either handle it or they don't.

"These are two experienced sides and two experienced crowds in these circumstances. Both sides will mainly want to stay in this game."

Hull also make one change and, like Derby's, it is enforced by injury.

Goalkeeper Allan McGregor is unable to feature, so Eldin Jakupovic starts for the Tigers.

Subs: Kuciak, Bruce, Maguire, Maloney, Clucas, Aluko, Akpom.

Midfielder George Thorne suffered a double leg break in Derby's final league match of the season, a 1-0 home defeat by Ipswich seven days ago.

His place in the starting line-up is taken by Bradley Johnson - a Championship play-off winner with Norwich last season.

Subs: Grant, Buxton, Hendrick, Bent, Baird, Butterfield, Blackman.

    What's your pre-match food?

I saw this picture of Hull City's Chuba Akpom having a laugh with team-mate Moses Odubajo and couldn't help but notice the differing pre-match treats in their hands.

That got me thinking: is there a food or drink you have to partake in before a match you're going to watch? Maybe if you don't have enough time to chow down that balti pie before a game you know your team are going to lose. Or your stomach isn't settled until you've downed that pint of milk.

This pair met as recently as last month, when Derby thrashed Steve Bruce's men 4-0 at the iPro Stadium.

If the scoreline ends up similar, the losing side will have less of an uphill task, more of a Kilimanjaro in the second leg as both sides bid not to face league matches against Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Burton Albion next season.

In contrast to Derby, Hull's most recent play-off campaign ended in one of their own scoring one of the most famous Football League goals at the rebuilt Wembley.

Dean Windass' volley against Bristol City in 2008 sent the Tigers to the Premier League for the first time.

Just look at his cheeky little face.

Since that goal, Hull have spent four seasons in the top flight and after relegation last term are looking to bounce back at the first attempt under Steve Bruce.

Derby County have been near the top of the Championship for pretty much the whole of the season, even with what some would consider to be a surprise change in head coach.

Darren Wassall took charge following Paul Clement's sacking in February with the club fifth in the table and promotion "not the primary target", in the words of chairman Mel Morris.

Wassall has so far won eight of his 16 games in charge and kept them in the same position in the table.

The Rams are in the play-offs for the second campaign in the last three. They won't want to remember what happened last time...

Today, two of the Championship's big-hitters - Derby and Hull - face off in the first leg of their play-off semi final for the chance to play at Wembley.
