The players are on the pitch at the Stadium of Light and the home support is boisterous to say the least. Noise reverberating around this ground as the coin toss takes place. Everton are fighting a tide tonight. Their boat is laced with holes of late too.

Here is Sunderland's league position this season. Like an anchor to the sea bed, they like it at the bottom.

What's been the reason? Scoring just 43 goals is hardly phenomenal but teams above them have managed fewer. They just never seem able to turn the after-burners on and have scored three or more goals in just five league games this season. Any Sunderland win tends to be a tight one.

"I have gone for the same front four that scored four against Liverpool and will if we get half of that I will be happy."

    Liverpool v Chelsea (20:00 BST)

We are awaiting images of Pedro in his protective headwear after suffering an accident at home. We can tell you Thibaut Courtois is feeling unwell and that's why he's not between the sticks. Chelsea's perfectly symmetrical season is going to take a slant one way or another tonight. The Blues go into tonight's game knowing they cannot finish any higher than the ninth place position they occupy. They quite literally have nothing to play for.

    Liverpool v Chelsea (20:00 BST)

Despite having the Europa League final on the horizon, Liverpool name a strong-looking line-up with nine changes from the second-string XI that started against Watford. Only Simon Mignolet and Alberto Moreno survive - Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge all return in a team with plenty of firepower.

Chelsea make four changes from the side that lost to Sunderland. Bertrand Traore starts up front in place of Diego Costa, and Pedro, Baba Rahman and Asmir Begovic also come in to the side.

    Everton fans shoutImage source, Reut

Surely the end is nigh for Roberto Martinez.

Everton are a shambles of late. That may sound harsh but one win in nine league games, with talents like Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku, Leighton Baines and others is surely not good enough.

Have no doubt, the 'Martinez Out' campaign at Goodison is getting louder, but there are still some fans who want to give the Spaniard the benefit of the doubt. For now.

Ahead of visiting the Stadium of Light, Martinez said: "There is a lot riding on the game for us after the performance we had (at Leicester). We need to react and we need to perform in the highest possible level."

If Everton's players step off the team bus at the Stadium of Light with a chill in their face and fear in their eyes, there could be an explanation at hand.

In their past two away games, defeats at Liverpool and Leicester, the Merseyside club have faced a whopping 68 shots. That's right folks, an Everton away game is becoming more and more of a basketball affair, with shots raining in on the away net roughly every three minutes.
