Plenty of Swiss possession in the opening period, few chances to show for it though.

    Romania 0-0 Switzerland

The three men behind the striker for Switzerland impressed against Albania and they're at it again, Blerim Dzemaili linking up with Xherdan Shaqiri and one good cross would give forward Haris Seferovic a tap-in. The cross is overcooked though.

    Romania 0-0 Switzerland

A decent opening 10. Don't forget that Romania really need a win here. Striker Claudiu Keseru has only touched the ball six times so far though as the Swiss win a corner.

"It's been a very lively start from both sides. Torje for Romania and Shaqiri for Switzerland look so alike; both stocky, quick and aggressive. Seferovic's movement was excellent there. His shot just a fraction wide of the post, he'll be encouraged by that."

    Romania 0-0 Switzerland

It's very, very noisy inside the Parc des Princes. I've never been but it looks like a cracking ground. Romania and their fans haven't had to leave Paris of course since their opener last Friday night.

    Romania 0-0 Switzerland

Lovely effort! The Swiss come within a foot of the opener as Eintracht Frankfurt striker Haris Seferovic takes the ball to feet, spins away from a defender and then plants a curling shot wide of the top corner! Lovely effort.

    Romania 0-0 Switzerland

A nice primary colours feeling to this one, one you could reenact on your Subbuteo table with, say, Norwich v Forest. Or Liverpool v Watford. At a push.

It's pretty end to end so far, both sides playing wide with proper wingers.

    Romania 0-0 Switzerland

Gabriel Torje is the man brought in to add some spark to the Romania attack this afternoon and he has an early run stopped by a good tackle. Torje was signed by Udinese to replace Alexis Sanchez but that hasn't worked out.

At the other end Stoke's Xherdan Shaqiri has a shot deflected up and away. Lively start in Paris.

The Swiss take their kick-off backwards, baffling Pat Nevin in the process. That's a new rule change as of 1 June. You can smack it anywhere you want now. Shoot if you want.

"Romania have made changes going forward, but when you look at the Switzerland defence, that is a hard line to break down."

Romania have only won one of their 14 games at the European Championships. It came in June 2000 against England (3-2).

The Swiss Psalm goes down well and is greeted by a hearty roar from those in red while the yellow end booms out a great rendition of 'Desteapa-te, romane!'.

    Or, Awaken thee, Romanian!

There are 11 verses but thankfully only four are usually performed.

It is clear that Parc des Princes is not going to be anywhere near full. The fans who are here are making a LOT of noise, however.

Here come the sides into the tunnel. The Swiss are led out by Juventus right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner and Romania are skippered by former Spurs defender Vlad Chiriches.

Only four of Romania's 23-man squad played in Europe's 'big five' leagues this season. Can they step it up?

"I'm really looking forward to this match, because Romania have to go for it. If they win this game they're right back in the mix, despite that opening defeat by France. I was impressed by their performance in that game though. They took them all the way."

Switzerland’s 4-1 win over Romania in the 1994 World Cup is the only previous instance of these teams facing off at the finals stage of a major competition. Anghel Iordanescu was the Romania manager. As he is now.

Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic is a man to clean up any team - he recently banned flip-flops from the team. Players must wear shoes.

If he can stop them from wearing those massive headphones on the team coach he gets my vote...
