Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel: "Today the whole team played really well, which was really needed for us after a difficult week. But we played really well today; everyone in the team can be happy with their performance.

"Belgium are a really good side but at times we helped them out a bit. We will dust ourselves down and get ready to go for Italy in Lille."

Republic of Ireland captain John O'Shea: "The big thing was to make sure we started the second half that bit better in possession, but we didn't do that and it left us too open to the counter attack. 

"Belgium are a good team but we still have a big chance against Italy, we have to take the positives from today and our performance against Sweden. If we do that, with a bit more discipline and control we can get something."

Lionel Messi, I mean Robbie Brady, makes a run through the Belgian defence, beating a number of defenders but then he is forced wide.

He manages to get a cross in, but Aiden McGeady's header is not troubling Thibaut Courtois.

"I think we know what Belgium are capable of. I'm not sure they are what I would call a cohesive team.  

"They have got very good individuals but it took them a very long time to get going today. Up against a Germany or a Spain I think they would struggle.

"They've not really been tested defensively, so they've had time to build up their momentum and get match winning players in match winning positions."
