Already sub Jeremain Lens makes this Sunderland team look better than the one that was out in the first half.

His hard work forces Adam Forshaw into a mistake in the middle of the park, but Lens is lacking in vision when trying to play the ball forward into the path of Jermain Defoe.

Robbie Edwards: I give up ... It's just the same story every season. We finish the season strongly but spend no money and struggle again

    Cristhian Stuani (44 mins)

Boro double their lead with a beautiful team goal.

Midfielder Adam Forshaw crafts a wonderful reverse pass into the feet of Alvaro Negredo in the box.

The Spaniard sells Jack Rodwell a dummy into next Sunday, which opens up the space. The ex-Manchester City man has the composure to roll the ball into the path of Cristhian Stuani, who picks his spot and caresses a finish into the roof of the net.

The Middlesbrough supporters go wild and so they should. Their side have picked Sunderland apart today.

Adam Jones: Based on the first 30 mins, think I could be watching 2 teams who gonna get relegated this year.

Steven Horlock: Sunderland are in serious trouble this year. A team made up of rejects, and no idea how Watmore is a professional player.

Dennis Ethan: Sometimes you got to question Moyes' decisions. Khazri is on bench. Bearing in mind he was phenomenal for Sunderland last season.

It finally goes towards Alvaro Negredo in the box, but the Spain striker's first touch is sloppy and the ball runs away.

    BBC Newcastle

Former Sunderland defender Gary Bennett on BBC Newcastle: "I can't understand that change. You've got Paddy McNair who plays centre-back. He's played there for Manchester United. Why doesn't he drop back alongside Papy Djilobodji and play centre-back?

"I hope Jack Rodwell can play centre-back. Sunderland have lost all shape. I would have put McNair at the back and Rodwell as the holding midfield player."

No, John O'Shea cannot play on. He hands the captain's armband on to Jermain Defoe.

On comes free signing Steven Pienaar for his debut. Surely the South African is not going to play at the back?
