    West Brom 0-0 Middlesbrough

It's pretty quiet at the Hawthorns. To be fair, there's not much reason for the crowd to get excited. Not one for the Premier League highlights reel so far.

Plenty of time to go, though.

    West Brom 0-0 Middlesbrough

When Middlesbrough do attack, they get a good amount forward. Antonio Barragan has four red shirts in the Baggies box to aim for as he holds the ball midway inside the West Brom half. He lifts the ball in and Johnny Evans heads behind for a corner. Gaston Ramirez takes it, but can't find a team-mate.

    West Brom 0-0 Middlesbrough

Mark Lawrenson reckons West Brom's set-piece strength will get the better of Middlesbrough. We've yet to see that strength as a Matt Phillips corner skids over Salomon Rondon's head and another chance for the hosts passes.

Brilliant work by Alvaro Negredo as he peels away from Craig Dawson and races down the wing. With no full-back to worry about, he cuts inside the box, Cristhian Stuani - unmarked - screams for the ball at the other side but Negredo takes too long and runs into trouble. West Brom clear.

While we wait for a goal at the Hawthorns, a quick reflection on a big one yesterday - Jay Rodriguez's first in the Premier League since March 2014 following wretched luck with injuries.

Bright start by West Brom. They're looking to get the early goal and are pressing the Middlesbrough defence.

  7. CLOSE!published at 10 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Middlesbrough

Neat football from West Brom as they create the best chance of the game so far. Darren Fletcher floats a ball towards the far post as James McClean ghosts in, his first touch brings the ball under control and he shoots with his second, but Brad Guzan closes down the gap and makes the save.

    West Brom 0-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough look to be playing it safe against the Baggies, with Alvaro Negredo operating as a lone striker, while midfielders Adam Clayton and Adam Forshaw are sitting just in front of the defence. They've not seen much of the ball yet but put together a promising move that ends when Christian Stuani flashes a pass across the face of goal.

    West Brom 0-0 Middlesbrough

James McClean, recalled by Tony Pulis for today's game, charges at the Middlesbrough defence, which continues to back off and allow the midfielder to get to the edge of the area before Antonio Barragán gets in a well-timed tackle just as McClean shapes to shoot. Promising stuff from the Baggies.

Matt Phillips drives the free-kick into the area but the visitors head away. West Brom are getting in Middlesbrough's faces right from the off.

Yowzer! That's a quick booking - 17 seconds to be exact as Daniel Ayala slides straight into Brendan Galloway's legs as the youngster races down the left wing.

The players are out on the pitch. For a second Sam Field, the 18-year-old debutant for West Brom, looks like one of the mascots. Footballers are looking younger and younger these days. That might be more to do with me galloping towards my mid-30s though...

  16. Set-piece strength to give Baggies the edge?published at 13:25 British Summer Time 28 August 2016

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Republic of Ireland defender on Football Focus

Middlesbrough have got four points from their first two games and look solid defensively but I still expect West Brom to find a way through.

The Baggies are looking to do some business before the transfer window shuts because I think Tony Pulis knows he has to strengthen, but their set-piece strength should see them through on Sunday.

    Prediction: 2-0

These two managers will have contrasting emotions so far.

Despite their opening-day win at Crystal Palace, Tony Pulis' frustration is there for all to see.

West Brom's lack of recruitment is top of the list, with a lack of goals not far behind, and his mood won't have been lifted by their League Cup exit to Northampton.

Aitor Karanka, despite his own cup disappointment, will be satisfied so far with Middlesbrough's return to the top flight.

Their win over Sunderland will heighten belief in their squad that they can add to the Baggies' recent aggravations at The Hawthorns.

He's still there, although he is on the bench today...

Whether it is football tactics or pulling off wearing baseball caps at the age of 58, it seems we can all learn a little bit from Tony Pulis. That is certainly Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka's view.

“I met him in my first season here at the League Managers’ Association dinner," he said.

"For me, he is the kind of manager I have to learn from. His record is amazing."
