That's rash from Jose Fonte, diving in to block a Michail Antonio cross and fouling him. Free-kick in a good area out wide. Dimitri Payet's eyes light up.

Mark Noble is as frustrated on the pitch as the fans are off it. He goes into the book for a meaty tackle on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Not happy.

That really should be 2-0 to Southampton. It's really well-worked and Dusan Tadic really should score. Adrian hasn't had his greatest season but that's a great save. How important could that prove to be? Is that the moment that could be a turning point for West Ham?

Simon in London: Rubbish signings, playing rubbish football in a rubbish athletics stadium. Thanks Karren!

Matthew Tilbury: West Ham's issues comes from the back. Not played the same back four this season and left it too late to reinforce in the summer!

Andy White: Do West Ham have the option of moving back to Upton Park?

  5. GREAT SAVE!published at 52 mins

    West Ham 0-1 Southampton

Jeers, loud jeers as Southampton miss a great chance to score a second. It's too easy for Cedric Soares to break a challenge and burst into the area, he picks out Dusan Tadic maybe 10 yards out, he should bury it and while Adrian makes a good one-handed stop it was at 'a good height' for him. Nathan Redmond sees his follow-up blocked.

    West Ham 0-1 Southampton

Southampton have taken hold of this game. Their midfield three of Oriol Romeu, Steve Davis and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are all a bit similar but they do a job at keeping the ball. Jose Fonte then floats a header in from a set-piece but that's easy for Adrian.

West Ham simply have to liven up. The first-half performance was disgraceful. I hope the players took a good hard look at themselves. It's up to the players to show a bit of intensity to lift the crowd.

West Ham seem to have more of an attacking threat already as they have numbers in the penalty area but it's well cleared, Southampton counter but it's whistled back as Cheikhou Kouyate took a knock to the head. He's OK.

Mark Noble summons his team-mates at the mouth of the tunnel as the sides emerge for the second half. It has to get better and Sofiane Feghouli is on at the break, replacing Manuel Lanzini.

Dan in London: West Ham fans didn't like Allardyce's long ball football, but at least he knew how to make it effective! Bilic looks clueless right now.

Lee: West Ham's problems were inevitable. The new ground is an athletics stadium, it was never meant for football. The worry is that when the novelty factor wears off West Ham will be playing in a half empty stadium.

Andy in Corsham: West Ham look like a gust of wind would make them fall over today!

West Ham's players don't even look that bothered! We saw Dimitri Payet's talent in the European Championships but he hasn't shown it here. They haven't offered any sort of threat. We can talk about the stadium and those problems, but the players have to go out and give it everything for the shirt and I haven't seen that.

James Lockwood: This game hasn't been a thriller, Charlie Austin showing he's a class act though. Stadium looks and sounds amazing though.

Martin MJ: Really thought West Ham were going to kick on this season. Top six at least. What is going on?!

Danny McGrane11: This is a snoozefest. I think I'll let my sister use the TV to play minecraft instead.

I think Southampton just about deserve to be in front - they are not in front at a canter mind. West Ham have been disappointing. They need more from Lanzini and Payet - Slaven Bilic will read the riot act at half-time, he will be furious because they have been really poor. Defences are on top but there's not enough penetration or movement in behind. Charlie Austin gets his one chance and he's absolutely clinical with it.

We've gone two hours without mentioning Wayne Rooney, so let me put that record straight with this little nugget.

Since making his Premier League debut in August 2014, Charlie Austin has scored the same number of goals as Wayne Rooney (21), despite playing 20 games fewer.

Southampton could be out of sight now as they craft a way through again, it's right-back Cedric Soares this time in behind, he has a man over but goes for goal and whacks it into the side-netting.

    SQUARE IT!

That's a decent save from Adrian. It was a good effort from Redmond. Fraser Forster hasn't had to make a single stop at the other end really.
