    Northern Ireland 2-0 Norway

That's three goals in Conor Washington's three starts for Northern Ireland at Windsor Park. I think he likes it.

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Norway

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

What a great run by Washington and what a great ball by Davis. How many times have we seen this when watching Northern Ireland?

We watch them start brightly but then take a sucker punch. Today that's exactly what they've done to Norway. I've always said it's very difficult to try and guess what team Michael O'Neill will put out.

That goal shows what Washington brings to Northern Ireland. He's very bright and clever and as soon as he got on that ball you were confident that he'd finish it.

  3. goal

NI in commandpublished at 32 mins

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Norway

Easy peasy. One penetrating ball forward, one cool head and Northern Ireland are cruising.

Conor Washington latches on to Steven Davis's perfectly-weighted pass to go through one-on-one, keeping his composure to fire low under the Norway keeper.

Just as Norway were getting back into the game!

Norway are finding their stride now. The visitors are enjoying their best spell of the match - can they get back on terms before the break?

  6. Postpublished at 30 mins

More good news for Gareth McAuley fans! For the second time this evening he seems to be fit enough to soldier on.

  7. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

More bad news for Gareth McAuley fans. Which is the whole of Northern Ireland. The centre-back has picked up another injury problem and is wincing again...

  8. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 28 mins

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

Let off for Northern Ireland! The home side fail to clean their lines - twice - allowing Alexander Soderlund to pounce. The Norway striker goes all Tony Yeboah on us, arcing his body to thump a spectacular volley against the bar.

  9. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

Nice. Northern Ireland striker Conor Washington peels off into the right channel to collect a pass, looking up to see Chris Brunt arriving from the other flank. The ball asks questions of the away defence and it is answered. Mohamed Elyounoussi boots clear with Brunt sniffing.

  10. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

The stats are all pretty even. Northern Ireland shading possession after having 54% of the ball, while territory is quite balanced too. However, only one statistic matters...

  11. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

Plenty of energy from the Northern Irish boys. This is perfectly exemplified by skipper Steven Davis who harries the Norway midfield into going long.

  12. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

Germany are five points ahead of Northern Ireland at the top of Group B as it stands. They beat Azerbaijan 4-1 in Baku earlier on.

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

Northern Ireland show their quality as they turn defence into attack in the blink of an eye. Stuart Dallas swings in another cross from the left... but it is straight into the keeper's hands.

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

Norway push and probe in the Northern Irish half - to no avail. They visitors have no final ball at the moment.

  15. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

A headed clearance from Norway's Gustav Valsvik falls straight to Northern Ireland skipper Steven Davis. His eyes light up brighter than a kid's on Christmas morning. But he gets too giddy, slashing high and wide of the Norway goal from 25 yards.

  16. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Norway

Norway managing to string a few passes together now, but they are barely laying a glove on the home side. Michael McGovern is virtually unemployed.

And the big man is straight back into the think of the action. Gareth McAuley pings a Beckhamesque 50-yard crossfield pass tot he feet of Stuart Dallas, who flights in a delicious-looking ball from the left touchline towards the far post.

Conor McLaughlin sticks out a flying right boot, but there is a bit too much pace on the cross. Goal-kick.

Panic over. Gareth McAuley is trotting back on. Told you he was made of stern stuff.

  19. Jamie's joypublished at 10 mins

Windsor Park is rocking and why not. A terrific strike from Jamie Ward to warm up the Green and White Army in the chilly south Belfast air. A perfect start.

Moment of concern for the home side here. Gareth McAuley takes a tumble after winning a header, landing heavily and seemingly inuring his ribs. He's wincing. And he hardly ever winces.
