    I smell more goals.

Dele Alli sees an effort from about 20 yards blocked by a yellow shirt, the ball rebounding to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. His effort from a similar distance hits the target, but is not accurate enough to panic Ernestas Setkus.

England need to get the ball to Rashford more. There will be a lot of questions to Gareth Southgate asking why he didn't start today. Sometimes in games like this it's better for players like him to come on when legs are starting to tire.

England corner, England chance. Marcus Rashford - in the great English tradition of centre forwards taking corners - swings the ball in from the left, Eric Dier escaping his marker to head over the bar.

Jamie Vardy is so annoyed with himself that he headbutts the ground. No wonder he's got a shiner with sort of behaviour...

We should have seen an England third.

Jamie Vardy is clean through after burning off the Lithuanian defence, leaving the England sub staring into the whites of Ernestas Setkus' eyes.

But the away keeper stands tall, doing enough to put Vardy off. He blazes over the bar.

Got to agree with you there Johnny (see below). Adam Lallana has been decent again today.

The Liverpool midfielder - voted England's player of the year in 2016 - delicately uses the outside of his right peg in an attempt to find Jamie Vardy in the six-yard box.

But the away defence do well to hack clear.

Lithuania have a corner. Joe Hart is under it. Move on, nothing to see here.

Johnny Magrinho: The more I watch Lallana the more I'm convinced he's England's most important player. Amazing work rate & technique. Integral

Andrew‏: Gotta wonder how 36 year old Defoe and 32 year old Vardy will do at the World Cup

James Farley:  Still don't understand why England are not play three at the back... they looked so good in that shape against Germany

    England 2-0 Lithuania

A game of volleyball has broken out. At least, Marcus Rashford thinks it has. The young England substitute tries to spike the ball in the Lithuania box as Adam Lallana's high cross floats over him.

That's deliberate handball, and that's a booking. I think Rashford thought he was shoved, stopping him from jumping.

Things are opening up a little at the other end now. Marcus Rashford and Dele Alli both take potshots from distance. Both lack power and Lithuania keeper Ernestas Setkus scoops up.

Hold on... Lithuania aren't cooked yet. England are forced to do some defending as the visitors probe down the right flank. Danger averted.

We were just saying England needed to liven it up, play a little bit sharper and crisper and you will create opportunities.

It's a good first touch and a neat finish from Vardy after a great lay-off from Lallana.

Still now with 25 minutes or so left in the game England should be able to create many more opportunities.

Vardy gives England breathing spacepublished at 66 mins

    England 2-0 Lithuania

That's the goal England - and Wembley - needed. Jamie Vardy does what he was asked to do, and that is stick the ball in the onion bag.

Clever play from Adam Lallana leaves a couple of defenders sat on grass, the midfielder slipping in Vardy who finishes calmly with a neat low effort.

Not a great spectacle this. To put it nicely. Could do with a goal to liven it up.

Neither substitute has made an immediate impression. Jamie Vardy has gone up top, with Marcus Rashford going on the left flank. As you were.

Is Jamie Vardy sporting a black eye? Perhaps it is just a spot of eye-liner.
