    Northern Ireland 2-0 Czech Republic

Northern Ireland have already sealed second place, but only the best eight of the nine runners-up qualify for the play-offs (excluding results against the bottom team in each group).

At the moment they're fine. But they could do with a result against Germany at home or Norway away to ensure they are not the worst second-placed team.

Of course, win both those games and hope Germany lose to Azerbaijan, and they will qualify for the World Cup automatically.

  2. What's left?published at 21:40 British Summer Time 4 September 2017

England have games against Slovenia and Lithuania remaining - two points from those two games will be enough to book a place in Russia.

If you were to read the stats, you'd think Northern Ireland hadn't played well. But they did what needed to be done, took their chances when they came.

The Czechs won on shots (11-5), possession (77%-23%). They won on corners, duels won, passes attempted, passes completed.

But on goals? It was 2-0 to Northern Ireland. Scoring their only two efforts on target.

That's seven clean sheets out of eight games in this group. That's five wins in a row. That's five clean sheets in a row.

Gareth Southgate has consistently said that he will not name a permanent captain and I don't expect that to change.

In the end, England deservedly won the game. We are one foot closer to Russia.

I would have given man of the match to Jordan Henderson. He took responsibility and wasn't afraid to have the ball. I think he is prime candidate to be captain of England permanently.

A very good win for England, considering they were absolutely awful for the first 35 minutes or so.

Raheem Sterling has played better in the few minutes he's been on tonight than he managed in the 45 in Malta. He had a shocker out there.

England send on Jake Livermore to see the game out. He'll replace Dele Alli.

Michael O'Neill's Northern Ireland have done it again. They have clinched second place in the group, which will probably be enough for a World Cup play-off place.

Five wins in a row. Five clean sheets in a row. What a job. What an era for Northern Irish football.

Think the Czechs have basically given up now. They know they're not going to score three goals in five minutes. Against a team who are close to a fifth consecutive clean sheet.
