    "Just a bit of quality."

Honesty, and a damning answer from England's captain.

Scotland probably didn't deserve to get a point out of this game but it doesn't matter you just have to keep fighting.

There were question marks over the referee but that is not the reason why Scotland didn't win tonight.

    They just weren't good enough.

  4. 'Nothing to write home about'published at 18:53 British Summer Time 8 October 2017

    Lithuania 0-1 England

    Danny Mills
Ex-Man City and England defender on Radio 5 live sports extra

England win, with a few tidy performances, nothing spectacular and nothing to write home about. It was an opportunity missed for a lot of these young players. They didn't do anything wrong, but they didn't do anything to say they want to be on the plane to a World Cup. In Russia, it is going to have to be a lot better than this.

A masterclass in how not to get the ball in the box in added time. Scotland wast a minute or more faffing about with the ball before miscuing a cross out of play. Still we play on though...

There are three minutes or so for them to do it!

Mark Meyrick: Oh dear - suppose this means we'll be seeing those tiresome 'Anyone but England' shirts on Scots fans this summer.

Spoopy Charlie: Scotland would already be in the play-offs if they could've beaten Lithuania at home...

Mick Massey: I've seen Henderson play more square passes than Ray Wilkins and that is not a compliment.
